For those that have done strips DIY need advice on driver selection...

I didn't think about getting two smaller ones, that's probably a good idea. I've gone back and forth between A and B, not sure I even fully understand the diff. The A you can adjust the voltage AND the current by opening the case and adjusting a screw, correct? Obviously not going to be doing...

    OK, so this is the driver that I will do and wiring: 24 x 2ft gen 3 strips HLG-480H-42A: 11.4A - 21v - 42v - 478w Wireing: 2 in a series x 12, then the 12 pairs paralleled. Is that good?

BTW - I don't have an issue wiring high voltage. I did the math on every possible configuration of the HLG-320H-C drivers up to 228 volts and they were just lower power. And if there is no difference in efficiency, just the ability to use higher gauge wire, and maybe a little simpler wiring then...

Ok thank. I didn't mean to be snarky, I'm just getting a bit frustrated because if feels like the more I learn the more indecisive I become. I just got off the phone with a Meanwell tech support guy. The Bridge Gen 3 are constant current LEDs and as such need a constant current driver. He said...

Damn, man I wish you guys would explain these responses just a wee bit more. Why would I want to run an 18v strip on a 40ish v driver?

I'm confused, do I need two HLG-240-1050b, like you said in first post or just one? Actually the strips have a minimum forward voltage of 17.8, so you can't run them at 12v per strip.

Thanks all. There are so many options and configurations for drivers, it's a bit confusing on what to focus on. Relative to efficiency, in general, is it better to go with higher voltage and lower amps? I feel like I might need to try and simplify things for my first build. The more I learn the...

I'm not quite following you, do you mean take two strips and wire them in series, then take those 2 and connect them with the remaining 8 in parallel? Or do you mean wire to sets of 5 in parallel then wire those 2 sets in series? In any case, how does that ease the load? There are clearly some...

This is my first LED build, and I don't want to f it up. This is for a 4x4 flower space. Using 20 2-foot Bridgelux Gen 3 but using a 4ft bar. 2ft is all I can find available for the strips that I want. I'm going with a mix of 10 4000k 90 CRI and 10 3000k 80 CRI. My reasoning is that this is a...

CO2 and the right type of air conditioner

I want to add CO2 to my grow room, however my understanding is that most AC units (like the one I have now) exhaust air out the room to keep the compressor coils from adding heat in the room. This defeats the purpose of adding CO2 because it will just keep getting pushed outside. My friend has...

Quantum boards coverage claims - are they accurate?

I'm looking at buying a quantum type board with Samsung diodes, either from HLG, Spider Farmer, or a Chinese knockoff. This is for a veg room only, over a 4x4 tray. I'm confused about what size board I will need. The Spider Farmer SF2000 claims the coverage for this board is 3'x4' veg, yet the...

Standalone shed build for flower room - design advice

Yes, I'm accounting for those things. Ventilation I'll have an 8 inch exhaust fan at the back top center of the room. No vented hoods but with going into fall and winter and cooler temps I think I should be ok. Humidifier in the room, and controllers. Waste water I'll have 1 inch hose for each...

Standalone shed build for flower room - design advice

I'm planning on building from the ground up a shed for my flower room. Dimensions will be 12 x 10 feet, with a height of 9 feet. I plan on using 4 double ended 1000w hps lights with a light footprint of 6x5 apparently, but I'll be using them in 5x5 sections. So I'll have 2 lights on each 10 ft...

    I screwed the pooch again.

So, after recovering from over-watering over-nuting my outdoor plants, I came down yesterday to find one of my plants completely cut in half. After a lot of troubleshooting I realized the problem was that I used twist ties (garbage bag ties) with a thin wire center, to tie my stakes to the...

Outdoor Pruning: Lower branches and Top Bud Sites

This is really two questions about what to prune on outdoor plants. First, is it a good idea to prune the lower few branches early in veg, the ones hanging near the dirt? The theory I've heard is that if you prune those low branches the energy the plant would use to grow them out can be freed...

Outdoor grow gone pearshaped - How to recover from poor root development from over-h20

Here is what happened from the beginning. Started from seed, transplanted into 4 inch pots with just seedling mix, plants were doing great. Later transplanted into 1 gallon plastic pots with Happy Frog and a bit of coco coir, when transplanted roots were abundant and bright furry white. In the 1...

Are fungus gnats not much of a problem for bigger plants, like in 100 gallon pots then?

Fresh bags of Recipe 420 have gnats - fungus gnats? - what to do?

Filling 100 gallon smart pots for outdoor grow and my bags of Recipe 420 have gnats. The reason I'm calling them gnats is they have the quality of gnats we all know from when we were kids. They are small, fly back and forth very fast, they are a light grey color. I assume these must be fungus...

1000w light bulbs with 2 prongs at each end - what are these?

Thanks for the link, but that review is for 3 air cooled hoods, the one I'm thinking of buying is not AC. I'm concerned about the heat factor. Does anyone run one of these non air cooled hoods tell me how hot the room gets? We are coming into summer.

1000w light bulbs with 2 prongs at each end - what are these?

It seems like the Sun Systems hoods are the lower end compared to Gavita and ePapillon hoods. Are these things still worth the price?
