Thank you Cult. The results are in....for the second plant anyways. Cult was 100% correct. The pictures I took earlier were new growth tips, but they sure looked like male preflowers for a while, and guess what?? It's a female. The pictures I took earlier from plant 1 look to be the same...

You can really top whenever you want to. I have heard its good to top with your plants are around 14" and then let the lower bud sites grow up to the top before you flower. I am going to try this method on my grow. KP has some crazy topping for mother's where the plant is topped way before 3...

Oh boy, is that even a soil mix? If it is, then perlite would help, but you need to mix in evenly in your soil, on top would do nothing. Perlite helps with getting oxygen to the roots. Even though your plant is that old, it is still a little small (no offense) so you probably need to flush...

Whats the temp? are you using nutes? how often do you water? the tips of your leaves look like a ph fluctuation instead of heat stress, but i could be wrong.
