    Cree CXB & COB Lighting

As far as entry cost, it all depends on what you've got available, and how you'd like to build them. Yes it's a learning curve but all that is needed exists within the forum threads here. And for easy info check out ledbuilder.org

    Opinions on Mars Hydro LED!

Not worth the investment it's really that simple. Oh and I've had/got a variety of the Mars Hydro industrial waste, however thanks to many here I'll be creating wonderful new Mars Bars... When I do them I'll create a thread detailing how to do it all and call it Pimp My Mars Bar... :)

    My 8-3590 cob diy.

Yeah know, I was not exactly excited about doing dozens of M3 taps and it took a shit ton of time to do, but managed not to break a tap. But I can appreciate the time it would have saved. All my holes where blind as well which made for a more interesting time. Did it take you long to actually put...

    My 8-3590 cob diy.

Nice build there Airwalker, and though you've had some grief from others you've also received a fair amount of assistance. You'll get many cycles out of those and I'm sure you're going to be real happy and glad all these wonderful people in the community bothered to discuss, or even share their...

Help for Pimp my BSLED SP112D whit 9 CXB2530

Very nice upgrade to the light, interested to hear you're results with it, do you find the temperature of the air coming off the heat sink is noticeably cooler? Those stella lenses make for a nice finish, well done and interested to see the performance of it, and your comparison to the old...

Looking to buy marshydro LEDs ?help

I'd say you can hang it within 8" ... if I can run the so called 400W Mars that close in flower then no problem with the 300W you have.... the only problem will be light spread from only 8" won't be very good... When it comes to upgrade time you may want to research how many cobs will...

Is A Mars II 400 Worth a Crap?

That's my experience, they even banned me from purchasing more through ebay because I insisted they are breaking the law in Australia in regards to defective products... So when you buy them u need to factor that in... One of our 700w Mars hydro's lasted three months and now at two years we have...

Is A Mars II 400 Worth a Crap?

Wow I went to sleep and the otherside of the pond woke up and took to the thread with sledge hammers and thus begins the psychological kungfu in the world of grow lighting. I can recall a time in the 80's when some people I knew got me into HPS and HID from Sylvania, everyone said "Why wouldn't...

Is A Mars II 400 Worth a Crap?

It's a good idea to do the calculations or get assistance to ensure you can make the changes safely and to ensure a suitable Tj. The Mars 2 400W light has been modded by Growmau he has a great video on the hack and is an inspiration to many of us. My upgrade will only use 4 cobs CXB3070 BB...

LED Help - Please don't hate me ;-)

One is a reputable co. That bins it's cobs the other is unknown quantity with no documentation at all showing spectral range, lumens per watt.. Just blanket claim of x lumens.. It's actually cheaper to just purchase quality.

Salvaging old led parts for cob build

Actually why not use the case... It'll have proper earthing... One cxb cob per driver a nice soft 600ma .,.. 3070 3500k BB from cutter with holders only 150aud.. So about 100us ... Cheap conversion for roughly 15k lumens... You will need to add some small leds to bring the Vf to to the min. Vf...

Is A Mars II 400 Worth a Crap?

Don't do it... you'll be more than likely very sorry... a lot of us are... Another crappy Mars Hydro light died yesterday on me, converting it to cree cobs. The problem with Mars Hydro lights is they simply do NOT I repeat DO NOT honor warranty. I've already had a 700 go as well as a 1600 lost...

    CXB3590 Build Query about earthing?

You are so right, there are thousands of drivers, I'm using the HLG185C1400B drivers. I just checked and you're correct there are three little geometric shapes that are earthed to the AC side and that would protect the DC side if mounting the Drivers to the heat sink or framing. I'm going to...

    CXB3590 Build Query about earthing?

If you're using the meanwell drivers I've found only the screws into the casing of the driver are earthed, the actual casing appears to have no earth, so either a join into the driver AC earth or attach a lug to one of the screw's on the ends of the driver. Not the one's used to mount the...

    CXB3590 Build Query about earthing?

I understand what you are saying and probably should have stated the drivers will be remote from the lights. I'll be running a common earth and splitting off to each of the lights, I would do this anyway but was thinking how I hadn't seen this in the builds I've looked at... maybe I've just...

    CXB3590 Build Query about earthing?

Thanks for that Bobby_G, Down in Australia and have been thinking through all this as I've watched others do builds, I've been somewhat concerned that most if not all the builds don't seem to be showing this about earthing to protect from DC killer shock. Seems to a fair number of people...

    CXB3590 Build Query about earthing?

Hi everyone and many thanks to all in the community. I've been getting everything together for a CXB3590 with HLG185 C1400 meanwell drivers, build with passive heatsinks from Fastron H42 x 1000mm which will carry 4 cobs on each run of heat sink x 4. My question is about whether or not to run...

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

Thanks for that information as it confirms what I thought. I'm only running 4ft wide so can't see much point. Besides want to run as cool as possible with good spread. Going to run 4 bars of 4 cobs over 5'6" x 4" area @ 1050ma should produce something worthwhile. These threads have been a boon...
