Well i don't know anything about wiring CFL's i think that that is too much work for the same thing and also could end up being a fire hazard if you are growing in rubbermaids......just screwing them into the sockets is a much safer and easier way in my opinion....i've never done it the way your...

the speaker wire is only being used on the 12v DC plug, i dont think that is any more power then what is run through your speakers.....im not sure tho any expert advice would be helpful i never thought of that as a problem...
