Thats a good point! I have read alot on the problems boosters make. Seem to do more bad then good. More and more are starting to use more basic nukes but better base nukes.

If You search 1g per watt you will find a few grow journals of people who have cleared that mark! Again Im not saying that it is easy as you really have to have the right enviroment/nutes/strain etc. but i promise you that it can be done.

I think you should be just fine. With a grow that small I would put the screen no farther then 6in, I would do 4in. Also maybe think about growing an indica as you dont have the head room for a sativa. You should be able to fill the screen around 30%-40% in veg the flip. Ifs its just for fun and...
