Do you filter the intake? If not you're likely forcing a bunch of spores, dust, dander(if you have pets), and who knows what into the room's air supply and onto the plants. That's one area I would suggest intake and exhaust, if you filter both. Definitely.

Yea, just do your best to pad it with insulation(getting some above it, insulating it from the building's structure would be good too). Obviously don't cover the intake or exhaust, that'd defeat the purpose. Rope/duct tape is your friend.

I completely agree flowering with MH is fine, in fact mixing them together(MH+HPS) produces, by far, the best results. Even the sun can not match a high powered(CO2 doping helps) indoor grow.
