The reason both are brass is because one hot goes to each brass, ie, red goes to one and black goes to one. Bare copper goes to the green screw. Common/ white is not used.

Sorry had to read it again, yes 220 splits the load equally between the two poles (this is why your bill is not cheaper) it just frees up more amp room for you
I use canna coco and I water til I get a 1/4 - 1/2 gallon runoff. It has work fine for me no probs. I also have 20% perlite mixed in to the coco. I water when near dry....

Yup what he said, bigger is better. I was going to get the phresh filter 6x16 because the cfm's matched my can fan 6 in HO 440. I ended up spending 10 bucks more on ebay to get the 6x24 thats rated for 550cfm. The bigger the surface area the better, more smell to catch.
just scrape down to the soft tissue underneath....they should be fine. remember the more you scrape off the length of the stem the better chance to root because more is under soil. but they should be good as long as you can scrape the wood off. Probably easier said then done though, never tried...
