Yep, the general rule I've always heard is around 50 watts per square foot. To the OP, you're thinking in reverse. The wattage doesn't dictate the number of plants you can grow. The number and size of the plants dictates the wattage you'll need.

In my experience, around 40% is max in flower. I have had strains that will still get some PM spots around 40% though.
