    Diy cob help

I concur with VG's recomendation of vero's but @ 500 bucks sod that, in the uk i manage around 75p a watt in parts if yer in the us you have far more choice of discount suppliers. Vero 29's are best bang for your buck currently @ £27 each with shipping and I pay around £30 for a heatsink section...

    Diy cob help

Yes, yes and yes, fire away, i'll see if I can help point you towards the right choices, I'm pretty sure there will be more too! Does a 6kw cob rig count as 'a big light like this' enuff? :bigjoint:

Will 5 COBs heat up my closet?

The most efficient cobs are currently around 50% total conversion efficiency, so your 180w rig will emit roughly 90w of heat and the heated air will (if not vented) recirculate getting hotter with each pass of the heatsink. In practice cob's convert roughly twice as many watts into light than...

    Any UK LED Guys here?

Worth mentioning here, saw some chat 'bout ebay citizen suppliers, 5 x 1212's for 50 quid looked reasonable, till I found a bunch of listings for the same units on alibaba for $2 each, seeing as digikey is asking over 20 quid a cob, I'd be very suspicious of the ebay/ali listings.

    Any UK LED Guys here?

Gimme a coupla days but if you insist on citizen, its looking to be a 20-30 quid premium over vero's and I can see fuckall advantage in the specs, they might manage a few single digit percentage points maximum efficiency but at over twice the price per cob. Back of the fag packet guestimation...

About to jump in to COBs

Might wanna do a bit more real world research on the supplementals, as far as I can tell (growmau5 etc) far red initiators of a few watts may speed flip times but as for IR/UV addition, far as I know no-one has got any meaningful crop benefits if running 'full spectrum' white leds with zero...

    LED UK Set Up Advice

Agreed, I'm not qualified in electronics but have worked with everything from 3 phase industrial supply to millivolt audio signals and place personal safety above all else, as a welder I am well aware of what a few amps dc will do at 70v.

    LED UK Set Up Advice

I'll consider any personal request, I'm just not ready to jump into the mire of regulations around pre-built electronics, so best I can do is person to person.

    LED UK Set Up Advice

PM me daria, sounds like you need my services, i don't build commercially but build professional rigs for mates etc, i'm based in london and can just about manage a pound (gbp) a watt so could get your light built for you within your budget. Check out some of my builds, stick 'jack freeman leds'...

No grounding wire on the HBG-60... is it a problem?

Yes the plastic case makes the electronics 'double insulated' and they do not require an earth and are entirely safe to use without one. If you are in the us or anywhere using 110vac I strongly recommend NOT earthing the dc side of the lights, the negative (cold -) pin on your domestic plugs is...

Modifying Old Blurples for Greater Efficiency...

Well your driver output is a known value, so we can take 5 x 42v x 1.4a and get 294w which will be its real output (input will be a percentage multiple of that number most likely around 90% efficient so 10% more power from the wall = 324w) for the added expense of slightly more efficient drivers...

    Uncontrollable muscle spasm

Hi tom, i'm epileptic and have full body night dystonia (spasms, jerks and cramps) I smoke all day to control the epilepsy but could do nothing about the dystonia, I have found edibles to be the only way of dealing with the spasms (which are so bad at times they approach turettes type with arms...

    Cob/plant distance

I junked lenses and reflectors after my first few builds. so little light comes out sideways the reflectors were more or less pointless and lenses just focus already high intensity light into even more intensity, I just use a good quality white/mylar reflective sheeting on all my walls, white...

    Cob/plant distance

I wasn't suggesting the inverse square law did actually not apply (er, physics), I see what the light meter says, it just don't seem to make a toss of difference, greengenes mentioned he had similar experience too, i suspect it is due to the very low levels of scattering and the directionality...

    Cob/plant distance

I got around 6-700w of mixed luxeon 1211's with a smattering of vero 29's but averaging 50w per sq foot and hung all different heights, I have found that the light emitting surface type leds/cobs have such a directional beam without optics they are just extra cost and hassle, cob spacings seem...

    Heatsink requirements

I have one very small (20w) cob on a big old ally server heatsink but it still gets a bit too hot imo, if they accept a standard pc fan they are worth considering but I use 4 foot extrusions that come in at 30 quid (gb£) and accept up to 200w passive and 300+ with pc fans added.
