I got this NON medical plant that is pretty gross. It smells like rotten meat when it blooms so it will attract flies to help with pollination.

Trumpet plant or something like that

DSC_0512.jpg

Now I've had some oniony smelling buds and some other pretty gross smelling buds but never had some straight up rotten meat bud. anyone who's smelled this plant knows it wouldn't really be a good thing to have it a plant that smelled like this but who knows. Who woulda known people like smoking skunk taste ya know.

Any one had some straight up left the steak out in the sun for a few days rotten smelling tree?

Never smelled a cannabis plant that smelled like rotten meat, though I have smelled plenty of stinkhorn mushrooms that are pretty nasty too.

As you say, the reason your trumpet plant does that is to attract flies for pollenization. Cannabis plants are open/wind pollinated, and simply don't need insects to do it. So there is no genetic reason for cannabis plants to give off this particular type of scent.

I'm also not familiar with any terpene that gives off a rotten meat scent. The compounds that do that probably aren't terpenes, but something else.

On general rotten FRUIT scent, there are a lot of strains that can make a sort of overripe/rotten fruit scent later in flowering. I think Subcool calls this the "baby poo" scent (from the fruity baby food they eat!).

Typically amines (putrescine, cadaverine, pyrrolidines) ... generally not from a terpenoid biosynthetic pathway but by enzymatically-directed amino acid decomposition. cn

That plant is a dragon arum - "Dracunculus vulgaris", it is related to the corpse flower I think. I have them in my yard in the spring .The first year I lived in the house and I smelled them out back I thought a possum had died under the deck. I cant imagine that anyone has bred a strain of pot to smell like that,or if that odor is even possible to bring out in cannabis.

Its so weird isn't it busitinscales. thats what made me make this post. I smelled it out back smoking and it about nocked me off my feet. made me wonder how PUNGENT we can get bud This stuff is POWERFUL smelling. The one on the left is the one i got with the white slashes on the leaves. its very strange looking. Ya good job on the name too corpse flower is totally one of its nicknames. My mother tried telling me the name but she's TERRIBLE with names so who knows. if it was a yellow canary plant shed probably come over and call it a RED crow plant or something like that lol.
ARe the slashes on the leaves camouflage you think?? makes me think their are bugs on the leaves and if i was a leaf eater i might steer away?!? all conjecture of course I'm sure one of these science guys knows whats up.

I don't think that a rotten meat smell is within the range of possible cannabis smells. At least the scents made by the plant through terpene production. Skunk is unique in that people who smoke love the skunk smell of good weed, but people who don't smoke usually don't really like it much. It seems to be acquired more than typical cannabis smells. I don't know what the skunk smell in cannabis is exactly, nobody does to my knowledge, but it is most likely a thiol and they can have a range of smells from putrid to coffee. I was thinking about this the other day, and I think that if cannabis did smell or taste bad, then the process of smelling it and then flooding your brain with endorphins with cause a positive association with that particular scent. You will like it eventually.

Chem D has a fermenting meat smell to it, and so do some of it's crosses. Not disgusting rotten like a dead animal, but the sweet, starting to rot smell. Like a steak you should have made yesterday, but waited until today when it's starting to turn brown from red. I know this thread is old, but what's up with NON medical OP? All strains have their medical benefits.

I can relate to this. There are certain types of music that I aggressively dismiss, but if I'm watching a video on youtube, a movie or TV show that I'm really enjoying and it has a song from a hated genre of mine in it, but fits really, really well with what's going on, I usually end up sort of changing my opinion of the song. I believe it's along the lines of a "guilty pleasure" or something.

probably the same reason every stoner gets a big ole smile on their face when you drive over a dead skunk. I've watched people start looking around like theirs gonna be a plant or joint they can hit or something lol

"So it was me and my girls 6th(?? ) anniversary today Got a bunch of different kinds of bud to smoke on all day,one was absolutely disgusting..Ihonestly thought that was impossible up until this point..my girl loved it and I gave it all to her though....it tasted and filled the room with this horrible smell of searing pork and rosemary,it may sound pleasant but I don't want my weed to taste like dinner. And it was so powerful the smallest puff coated the back of my throat with this rank meaty pork fat flavor

Had to share that...never tasted absolutely disgusting bud before..and I've had lots of meaty bud but not like that"

Lil copy paste.........yup says it all......I like some, like a meaty skunky bud

I would cry if I had grown that though
