Buy 2 1.5 cf bags of ocean forest, 1 bag of happy frog and please use pots that allow roots to breathe. Or just get 2 balds of roots original. These are good mixes

You going to need to supplement at one point or another in this grow.get a decent All in one fertilizer,or a+b+macro formula.

i have seen some ridiculously nice soil mixes!that cost quite a bit to make and they usually need to supplement with compost teas or top dressing more organic fertilizers along the way.

-
my best suggestion would be to buy some organic amendments and improve the soils, and use compost teas if needed along the way.
once you get the hang of it,you'll love it. I have dropped using a+b fertilizers

Yeah I've looked into ammendments and top dressing, tea's all to much for my small operation atm, I like roots but wanna at least mix it with light warrior, I just wanna weaken the mix a lil thats all I don't wanna burn my plants. I think if anything ill mix like 2:1 Roots/ light warrior and maybe a small bag of pearlite too???

roots straight out of the bag will not burn your plants. I put freshly rooted clones and seedlings into it directly with zero burn. I have never once reduced the potency of my soil either. there is plenty of perlite in roots already. if you plan to finish the plants in 5 gallons of soil without adding ammendments your plants will run out of gas too early, no question. I use 10 gal pots with highly ammended soil and some strains still need more nitrogen in mid flower to keep from fading too hard. I would at least add some bloodmeal and worm castings when transplanting to the final pot.

I have discovered that my soil dries out too fast with superoots airpiots.
I was watering everday and the soil was bone dry. My poor little microbes didn't stand a chance.

I am going to line my airtpots with heavy duty landscape fabric. Not the crappy plastic stuff, the actual fabric, commercial stuff.

I still want air on my soil, but with RH around 15% the airpots dry my soil out way to fast.

That is in a 3 x 3 tent with a good amount of air flow.

The fabric pots are cheaper in the short time, but the plastic air pots will last for 100 years.

I never tried the air pots but I have 5-20 gallon smart pots and I love the bigger ones, my humidity is always around 50%, I always top dress mine and it helped keep water in but the point of those pots is to let things breathe, I wouldnt consider it a bad thing, just add more moisture retention to it next time, I like fast drinkers, healthy roots.

Why buy expensive pots if you have a drill!
My thoughts exactly, but a "Homer" bucket just doesn't have the same cachet (or price tag), as a 'smart' pot.

Get a bag of Espoma 'tone', garden or tomato and that will do you for organic nutes. I use both, for different plants, but either will be fine as a stand alone.

I'd get the perlite. Most bagged mixes don't seem to have quite enough added. Snag a $4 bag of dolomite lime while you're there. Prevents all sorts of problems down the road. Add it along with the perlite, 1cup/cf of mix.

my pots have paid for themselves 57 times over and they will still work in 100 years.
$5 for a bag is great, but it won't last 25 years

I suppose I could make bags out of landscape fabric, that is all the bags are - sewn together landscape fabric. Maybe make the wife dust off the sewing machine.

if I were using bags, I would have the same problem with the soil drying quickly

my mix is heavy on perlite and water saving amendments - 3.75 gallons of soil should not dry out overnight

50% humidity sounds great, I just checked mine, it is too low to measure so it is under 15%

I have done a couple of grows mixing light warrior and roots original in a 1-1 ratio and had great results. I still fed the plants and they were fine. I recently have tried roots mixed with bio bizz light mix (peat moss based) and the results are about equal but I think I might have a better smell now but that could be due to me adding Epsom salts to my reverse osmosis water. I'm trying to move away from the peat moss after this grow as I have heard it makes ph drop significantly when you resume the soil and I'm trying to get into true living organics.

I love the sound of 2 root's to 1 light warrior, and I'm pretty sure that's what I'll use. As far as pots are concerned; my growroom typically stay's around 30-35% rh, I will be switching to mainly led's in less than 3 weeks with 4 T5's as supplemental, they don't run nearly as hot, right now I feel as thought I'm not watering allot and I'm using all hid lighting, I wanna let my next run really drink. I was planning on using fabric pot's this run due to needing new pot's anyway + aren't fabric pots cheaper typically?

Smart pots range from $5-12 for small indoor pots, they have them from 1 gallon to 200 lol they are great additions, I plant in all kinds of containers including 5 gallon buckets w a hole drilldd 3 inches up from bottom, all pots work if you find put what they like, smart pots just develop beautiful plants and roots compared to others imo, I've never used the pots trousers mentioned but they would wirk great too, hes a very good source too.

SO... I actually spent money on soil today... I got 2 bags of 1.5 cufoot roots organics greenlight for 16.50 a piece and mixed those with approx. 1 bag of ff ocean forest and 1 bag ff happy frog, but (both the OF and HF were premixed and pre used) about 6 months ago by a friend of mine who said the mix was used once for flower only, and I could have it. Originally I was gonna toss and till it into my outdoor garden with 5 or 6 other bag's of that soil mix as I didn't need them. so.... I am re-useing soil that has definitely cooled down by now, plus I mixed it today and it will probably sit for another 2 weeks or so before I stir it again and use it for my plants. Definitely not supersoil but should be Pretty damn GOOD either way!!!:weed:

Oh and as far as the pots go, the indoor grow store I got my soil at today had 7 gallon nursery buckets for 1.69 a piece and the nice heavy duty water trays for 1.25$ a piece so I bought 8 of them each, and the rootpots/feltpots were 4.99 for the 5 gallon ones and .99 cents for the 1 gallon's I picked up two of the one gallons to give them a try figured I'd go solo cup for the first 2 weeks 1 gallon root pouch for the next 2-4 weeks and my 7 gallon's will be for last week of veg and 8+ weeks of flower. Sound good??? well too bad that is what I'm doing. Ha

Will be a good mix. Keep buying soil though to prepare for next round and thwn you can make it for veg or flower. Plan ahead to save the headaches.

yeah no doubt it was a headache, but honestly I don't have a job and I am a full time college student, my girlfriend gave me 20 bucks to help me get 2 bag's instead of just 1. I'm trying to do this right as its my first major grow on my own. For the last 2-3 years I've been living with a caretaker learning and what not, now I am my own caretaker and have my own place with a lil help from friends to grow, I had about $1400 to invest when I started now I need to make some medicine. Soil and bucket's were the last 2 of 3 on my list. the only thing i don't have yet is mite treatment...but alas I don't have mites soo...
