Flowering with Cree bulbs

I see...well guess I will have to take one of the bulbs off and find out which the HD here carries. As for the spectrum charts, I'm a bit ignorant of how to use them. I do understand that plants mostly feed on red and blue, so assuming that yellow and green would have little to no effect?

Funny ass remark to Red.

Yes plants mostly absorb red and blue. They do absorb 20% of green . The green wave lengths helps plants to absorb photons in other areas. Beyond that much green is wasted light that plants don't absorb. ie hps..... With white leds all the wave lengths are covered...

Maybe you could explain one more thing to me...what exactly was Captain using the 730nm for? Is there a thread or something explaining why it helps the grow in more detail?

When the sun sets it puts out 730nm Infrared light. Sending plants into their phytochrome state. When plants flower outside the days tend to be longer than the rest of the year. Until mid september.... With indoors it takes 2 hours for plants to go into the. phytochrome state. Using the 730 nm light at the end of the light cycle. Turning it on for last 5 min and let it run 5 min afterwards. It mimics sunset Sending the plant into it phytochrome state within 30 min. By that you can keep your lights on longer. 13.5 / 10.5 instead of 12/12...

A few years ago I bought a UFO Flower Accelerator which is a 90 watt UFO with all 730nm LEDs. I have it on a timer set to come on 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the main lights turn off. The extra 1.5 hours daily really improves yield. In 8 weeks of flowering an extra 1.5 hours a day adds up to 84 hours or 6+ days worth of light.

Whats the science behind this? Does the plant think it's sleeping? Would you add UV also?

Well... Hyroot said it pretty well. The far red signals the plant to enter the sleep cycle. It naturally occurs when the sun is low on the horizon when the light is filtered most by the atmosphere. It just won't happen indoors unless we provide it sort of like all the other conditions we provide for our ladies. UV is another topic altogether. I can say from experience that a few hours in mid-cycle of Reptisun 10 UV reptile fluorescent light does increase potency. It causes the trichomes to produce more THC. There's a good youtube video on the subject. The guy seems like an old stoner and he makes a lot of sense. I didn't like the UV end product as much as without UV. The higher CBD strains seem to do me the best. The balance is nicer.

Who's Hyroot?! That dude doesn't know lighting if a bulb busted in his ass. JK LOL. Going to have to give it a try and do some reading on it. Are there any good studies?

I've used UV during mid cycle with great results. Ladies produce more trichomes in an attempt to protect themselves. There's a fine line with it tho.

I don't know Hyroot and don't need to hear what you think of him but the science is solid. I don't have any links saved to it but I am happy with my results and I have proven to myself that it works. 13.5 hours in flower with no hermies. Just more and bigger flowers. It's simple. Far red light at the end of the cycle makes the plants go to sleep quickly. Without it they can take up to two hours to enter the sleep cycle. We can take advantage of that and run long days with no ill effects by bathing the crop in far red for a short time daily. I'm sure if you look around a little you will find the research paper I wish I had copied the one I read a few years ago that studied the effects of far red light on flowering plants.

Yeah I wish I'd have seen Hyroots post earlier. He's one of my friends n mentors BTW. This sounds new and exciting to me at least. Who thinks of this shit..really. Well thanks for giving me something else to research lol.
 
Hey hiroot i was just wondering if you had heard anything back from cree via email about differentiating between the leds used for the cree a19s?
 
Yeah Hy, have you heard anything? They haven't returned 2 of my emails about the subject. Fuckin' CREE-tins :).
 
No emails yet either. I never called back either. From the par measuring tags did. I'm kind of over those. I might rather do the Cree 50watt arrays on DIY leds. The other company that uses x-pg's I posted in my thread. Regardless of all that. I'm going to be doing CMH...
 
I called them and got a bunch of denial. Said they were defects. Annoyingly you can keep buying them and returning them and my HD is aware of the situation.
