Lots of women just don't report rapes to the police. They 'soldier on', because of the stigmas associated with being a victim, and various other causes.

Again, by my count, for the 3rd time on this site, why would anyone hide something like that? In our society, rape is taken very seriously, to the extent even false rape accusations ruins peoples lives. If someone is raped, it is a very good chance they'll receive justice, to hide it is a monumental mistake on their part, preconceived taboos or not.
