If you're really worried about radioactive releases into the ocean, why don't you start with couple hundred thousand barrels the US military dumped into several dumping sites across the world. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of chemical weapons dumped along with them.

Radiophobia is what's really behind it all. Nuclear power isn't going anywhere. There are environmental impacts in any type of power production, and there are viable plans to contain the waste. Yucca Mt. has been ready for years, but politics has kept it shut down all while billions were spent letting Congress argue about it ineffectually.

Granted I work in the field so my opinion is hardly objective, but I really think that nuclear power is a viable stop gap solution to meet increasing energy demands until fusion reactors become useful.

Right now in radiation protection we use linear, no-threshold dose response curve, stating that any exposure to radiation has a commensurate increase in risk. This works well and all in a regulatory fashion, but the truth is that there isn't enough science behind it.

Though in honor of this topic, I'll ask you, and anyone else that is scared of Fukushima, have you had your house tested for radon? If you're really scared of radiation, start with the one that is in your house. Radon is only second to tobacco for causes of lung cancer, and yet most people are unaware of it.

And if you think fusion is "dead in the water" you've not been following the physics world. It'll happen, just not anytime soon. Even the best industry estimates aren't looking at viable reactor for another ~30 years, then add on time to make it commercially worthwhile. But it will happen. Its basic nuclear physics really, the problem is in containing it.

Well, please cite your references. I do follow. I don't see a solution to the neutron flux ablation. I don't see a net/net/net positive output concept, much less a design.

So, if you have that, then why just talk? 30 years ago they said 30 years, seems like? So, containment is the only problem with no physics that I know of to solve it.

IAC, why say this is fear? It is a political discussion based on what they won't tell us and let me guess, so what? Who are the ones with the agenda? How long do think I will live one way or another?

I test for Radon and I have been thru CT scans every 6 months.

It all adds up. No amount is a little bit. Airline pilots get dosed and retired. It is all radio-death, and just living longer can naturally kill you with natural foods.

It all add up. I find it difficult to get it. The idea that this power will add fewer deaths than another type of power.

We have been doing everything we can to clean up.

Well, these Fukushima things happen and it all adds up. But, afraid?
