Fukushima, No Cause for Alarm

No he isn't. I don't think he means that at all.
You just moved the goal posts quite a bit there...

Yes, it will kill things near the site of the pollution. It just is not going to be a global issue, and it will not significantly affect America.
I think you need a lot more heat for it to reach critical mass and explode. Therefore, we are just worried about the pollution.

If the individual radioactive ion's (or whatever) are distributed in an enormous amount of ocean water, they are dispersed enough to not cause fatal damage to anything.

We BLEW UP 2 cities in Japan and now they are thriving economic centers. How long did that take? And that was on land with massive fallout...

It is a huge problem if you are close to it but as you get farther away from the pollution event it becomes geometrically less dangerous.

The earth is covered by 80% water. The volumes you are talking about are insignificant when compared.

I am more worried about asteroids...
Of course he doesn't.

You realise without critical mass no reaction occurs?
Radioactive material is reacting all the time. It is the shit that it throws off during these REACTIONS that make it dangerous...

Is all radioactive material at critical mass all the time?

*sigh*

But all that radiation if it escapes into the air or sea in Fukushima won't cause any AMERICAN deaths so it is ok.

Right NLXSK1?

Well, if you actually read all of the posts in the thread I said I would not want to be near the event.

What I am saying is that the effects of the radiation and radioactive material and it's effects on the USA have been VASTLY overstated in many of the hysterical pieces written.

Flaming Pie, Do YOU care? And if so, how is that making the situation any better? You know, you CARING about it...

Japan had a nuclear meltdown and I am assuming they are doing their best to contain the pollution and clean up the situation. Me CARING has nothing to do with it.

Fucking liberals think CARING about something is enough to make them better people... LOL!!!

Should I CARE more about the people dealing with nuclear radiation or the 150K+ thousand people who died in Syria? Or should I CARE more about the people killed at a shopping mall in Africa today because it is a current event?? I mean, I only have so much CARING to go around, wouldnt want to spread it too thin... LOL!!!

You are on an endless fail cascade.

Radioactive isotopes break down naturally, releasing small amounts of radiation.

Fission reactions cause atoms to break up, releasing huge amounts of heat and radiation that dwarfs anything else that happens naturally on this planet.

Not the same thing, even vaguely.

No one is being exposed to the fission reaction. This whole conversation revolves around the Radioactive Isotopes that are being released into the environment and the supposed catastrophe that is going to cause.

Are you attempting to de-rail the conversation or just say something that looks smart in an attempt to win the argument?

I think he is worried about a possible melt down and the volume of radiation that will be release into the atmosphere. But whatever.

I suppose I understand that in a way. However, something far worse than a meltdown already occured. The material will not melt through the crust of the earth and even if it did it would not leave a hole where lava or anything else could get out.

I am not saying it isnt a disaster, I am saying that it is not the end of the world for a bunch of reasons.

Accusing me of not caring and assuming that has some basis in the discussion makes you a liberal... Hardly a theory, just and observation of general behavior.
Ah I see. So only liberals can be assholes is what you are saying. Basically calling me an asshole for asking about your views on the damage the radiation will cause if they can't keep cooling the rods.

So the Japanese are just building a 400 million dollar ice wall for funsies? Those silly asians.

Are you attempting to change the topic in an attempt to win the argument?

The point is and still continues to be that America and the *America's* are not in significant danger of radioactive poisoning from the Fukushima disaster.

Now, if you live in Japan, that is a different matter altogether.

The earth isnt going to end because of this... Kthxbye...

Well I never said the world would end. I simply popped in the thread because people were finally talking about fukushima again.

So because America is not in danger, it is not worth discussing?

Ever hear the expression "an empty vessel makes the most noise"?

That's you, bro.

I am beginning to think there is. And it is such a simple calculation, there actually may be only one outcome.

Extinction Event.

There I said it.

There are already, on the site, 1000+ water storage tanks of the highest radioactive level, that it is almost un-imaginable.

If you leaned on this tank for a few minutes it will kill you.

If you stood at the 2 feet line, for one hour, you are exposed at, LD 50. That will kill 1/2 of humans exposed this way. Lethal dose for 50%. That horror calculation I remember from the Cold War.

Now, why is all that water like that? Cooling the mass of exposed fuel rods.

What about the containment? Loop is broken. Spray cooling only.

But, all that water??? Right.

How much is contaminated? An Olympic sized swimming pool per week. 660,000 US gals. 2640 Tons per week.

But, But, but...???? Right.

When can they stop? They cannot stop the cooling.

Why not? Well, the fuel piles will melt together and form critical mass and explode.

Ugduimdk a=./' !!! yes

So, not a big bomb right? Wrong. Fukushima fuel density is hundreds of times the yield of a Chernobyl event and tens of thousands of times stronger than Hiroshima. Crust buster. And a Winter Maker.

OR, if no critical mass is achieved, then the Syndrome. Melt into the Crust and expose high pressure mantle material. A super volcano.

AND, the corker, is what they are already doing, accidentally and, on purpose. They have to dump it in the ocean. They can't store it and the entire ocean cannot cool it, IAC.

Checkmate?
yay a hysterical brain fart from doer!!!!!

and no

Im just wondering what the general consensus on nuclear power is now.

Chern wasn't enough of a disaster to kill the nuclear power profit train, now the force of
nature takes out another facility and is showing a larger scale of harm.

When does the potential of disaster out weigh profits?

The ease of disaster is actually too easy, from computer virus to severe storms, why would anyone want to be powered by
or living in proximity to nuclear power. Really what do you gain by promoting the power when it can be produced by other means.
