Would the real villan stand up please?

Electrolysis is the most innefecient way of making hydrogen right now, and if everyone did it, we would se a monumental rise in electricty consumption. Where is all this extra energy going to come from? Is everyone going to have cryogenic tanks at their house to liquefy and store the hydrogen...and how exactly do you figure we could get 300 miles from 4 dollars...what makes you say this, where are you getting these numbers from?

Your right, the electrical prices would most likely rise because of the increase in consumption.. I don't know about monumental though...

The extra energy would come from our wall outlets. We would use the same electricity that the power company supplies. If the power company harvests their power from hydroelectric, coal, solar, wind, etc, it is not a concern to me.

I would compress the hydrogen in tanks at high pressures- like a scuba tank. I would than run that through the engine.

300 miles from 4 dollars.....(Without writing a book) This is contingent upon many variables and that is why I say approximately. This depends on the price of electric, water, how many miles per gallon your vehicle gets, and other variables. What I am saying is that you will only have to pay 25 cents for your utility(water and electric) bills to get you the same distance as 4 dollars worth of gas. So even after you loose some power due to the electrolysis process and running through your engine, it will be much cheaper to pay the utility company than 4 dollars a gallon.

As a note, hydrogen is by far the most abundant element in the universe.

I very much doubt we would get anything close to 300 miles to 4 dollars...if we are going to use electricity to make he hydrogen, why not just have electric cars, than we can skip the whole step of making hydrogen.

We would need electric motors and huge batteries. I'm not sure how big of a battery we would need, but I'm sure it would have to be huge. Plus, we would have to use electric motors... So we would not be able to retrofit our present cars.... But your right, it would skip the whole process of making hydrogen. Good question though.

It just makes sense to me, that we should be using hydrogen at very high pressures(4000 psi) and running our vehicles off that. I'm sure gas and diesel would still play a role for certain things(like truck drivers that have diesel engines and need the torque), but the price of gas/diesel would plummet to maybe 1 dollar a gallon(or less) after everyone has converted.

Back when gasoline was 50 cents a gallon, people were getting 8 times the amount of miles per dollar. So if your vehicle gets 40 miles per gallon and you spent 4 dollars on gas when it cost 50 cents a gallon than you would be able to drive 320 miles from the same four dollars. If you don't believe me than do the math your self. So why is it so hard to believe that we could save that much from hydrogen? Why don't we run our homes off of a gasoline generator? Because it would cost a fortune. Do you understand now? Basically, the cost of electric and water is nil compared to the present day gasoline prices.

As a quick FYI -
Our present day hybrid cars harvest electricity from using your breaks and sends it to the battery/motor for use.
