Now you're taunting me (hehehe). What with your 'never had a Hermie' and your smoking your very successfully homegrown OG Kush...
Lol, I would never taunt Lady H, these things (hermies) will visit all of our gardens at some point.

It was that time of the evening when I reach for the curing jar and roll up some of that pungent Kush, it was only fit and proper that I raise a toast to perseverance in light of your war against balls.

You are most welcome to be my guest and sample some of my finely cured product (I think you would like it) :eyesmoke:

Hello Fellow Adventurers,

I'm being tested. Pearl is just still so droopy, I don't know what to do...

She looks like she's gasping for a drink, or...has had far too much. I've done neither to her. So (strokes chin) what else can it be? It can't be too many nutes as I have been v.sparing with them and only at 1/4 strength when they have had some. I haven't been using the humidifier but the humidity is between about 35% and 55%...bit low on the low end I s'pose. I've only tested the PH a couple of times, and only with those strip things, but the tap water is PH7. The two times I've tested it, it's been 7 going in and 7.5 coming out the bottom. Is that too high? (Drums fingers...) What else?

I've looked at all those pictures of sick plants so maybe she has a deficiency? I just don't know.

Here she is...

Pearl @ day 58 - Drooping for Gold. Oh, and she was 8 weeks old yesterday. She still hasn't exactly 'stretched'.

Anyone got any ideas? Please?

On the plus side, she growing little buds! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Look.

DSC02641.jpgDSC02643.jpgDSC02644.jpg
Pearl's Baby Buds. Look at that! My very first ever buds. Result!

I am quite excited. But not as blinkin' excited as I would have been had the other two been in a similar condition and not currently sprouting balls.

By the way, here they are, outside on my little balcony. They've been out there for days and seem quite happy.

DSC02630.jpgDSC02631.jpg
Bastards.

Anyway, as REVERSE does not appear to have done it's job (in fairness to Reverse I think it was probably a little late to save them), I think I'll have to give them the chop. Just feels mean, they're so healthy. Maybe I'll give them another quick squirt of Reverse before I give up on them for good.

Anyway, that's where I am at the mo. Any and all suggestions more than welcome.
I'm going for a spliff and a cuppa.

See ya. Lady H x

Ah, Herbs, I am touched by your toast (thank you) and acknowledgement of the plight I face in my War On Balls.

As you will note from my post above, and as much as it galls me to say it, I think the Balls are winning.

But Pearl is growing buds! Yay!
How long until I can smoke em d'ya reck?? hehehehe.

I'm stopping by yours later to see what you're up to now. Or are you just curing and sampling?

Over and out for now. Lady H x

Greetings Lady H, it is sad to see that your balcony is overflowing with balls, it looks like Wimbledon out there.

Alas, you will have to soldier on with Pearl, it looks like she is going to be the bearer of gifts.

I've just chopped the last (first gen) plant, dried and curing it now. I will update at some point with my findings and observations, since I'm about to harvest the first of the Second Generation crop (a Silver Haze clone) under slightly different growing conditions (feel free to post over there btw).

Seems like Pearl is just going to be droopy, so long as she gives up the fruit is all that matters.

Chin up Lady H, it’s a rocky road but you will get there :joint:

I've been thinking.

I wonder if the fact that Pearl is the only female of my three corresponds to the fact that she grew differently to the others.
She's the only one that dropped and she's the one that had the mini case of The Claw. And she's smaller. She didn't respond as well to the LST...

Anyway. I've had another thought. I'd forgotten that I gave them a hot watering (cringing at the memory) - on day 33, 6 days before I switched them over. I don't know who got watered first, but whoever it was would have had cold water, whoever was second and third would have had the hot water... maybe that's what stressed them over the edge into Ball production?

Pearl's timeline:

DSC02373.jpgDSC02375.jpg
Pearl @ day 33 - before possible hot-watering...
Hot-watering took place later that evening.

Pearl @ 5 weeks - looking a bit droopy.
DSC02401.jpg

@ day 39 - day of switch to 12/12.
DSC02418.jpg

@ day 45...

DSC02465.jpgDSC02468.jpg

On day 47 Grace and Shirley start displaying balls.

DSC02549.jpg
Pearl @ day 49...drooping even more...

And @ day 51...
DSC02564.jpg

I'm going to come up with a plan of action. Feedback to my blog entry says it's a PH problem, so with that in mind....

Later. Lady H x

The Balls have won Herbs. They beat me. Have you even been beaten by balls? Not pleasant.

Never mind. I'm bruised and bloodied but I shall persevere with Pearl. She is def bearing fruits.

Looking forward to your updates on the curing and sampling.

Just read through this thread for the first time Lady H, you have been through the wars and will emerge victorious older and wiser, love your writing style, I can feel the pain. As for your question if we had been beaten by the balls, The answer is yes, not pleasant, but better than being lifted by the Fuzz.

Well hello and welcome Bilbo Baggins. So glad you came over. And thank you for your kind words. I will emerge victorious, older and wiser (the older bit won't be a hard). Just such a shame. I'm sure I'm not out of the woods yet so please come again. Lady H x

R.I.P Shirley & Grace
17 April 2013 - 15 June 2013

So, I've given them the chop. Feel so mean.

I have to say tho, just look how well my LST worked, especially on Shirley. Just image if they were nice little buds now instead of...balls.

Shirley @ day 60 just before the death toll...

WARNING. GRAPHIC CONTENT.

Here comes the chopper to chop off your head...

Grace and Shirley respectively - horribly mutilated.

My Single Lady - Pearl.
@ day 60.
The last remaining of her kind. Wish her well.

DSC02645.jpgDSC02646.jpgDSC02652.jpgDSC02653.jpg

DSC02647.jpgDSC02648.jpgDSC02655.jpgDSC02657.jpg

So yes, it's day 60 today and it's 3 weeks tonight since I switched her to 12/12, which means that she is either 1 or 3 weeks into flowering, depending how you look at it. I'm counting from switch over so 3 weeks for me.

My Plan-of-Action is to:
 1. flush her
 2. put her in a bigger pot
 3. not water her again for a week, then...
 4. give her a nice big water/feed with Bloom nutes

What do you think? Also I took off her ties last night. I'll tie her back down before I do .4

So there you have it. At least I still have Pearl. She was the first to hatch.

I will be holding a spliff-light memorial for Shirl & Grace at 4.20pm. Please join me in raising your lighters to celebrate their short lives.

Ahhh, Lady H you have had a baptism of fire, but you still have a chance with Pearl.

You just have to put the balls behind you and nurse Pearl through now.

Has she started to smell yet?

The Balls are firmly behind me (fnar fnar) and I am well and truly focused on Pearl.
She started to smell ages ago, well they all did, but I have noticed a change in her smell over the last couple of days. Getting more excited now. Can't wait! x

So, what with my two out of three feminised seeds turing out to be Hermies/Males, I have been racking my brains as to what I did wrong.
After much deliberation I decided it must have been the stress caused by the hot watering episode and not by my LST or defoliation - which is a relief.

But being someone who likes to get to the bottom of things I did some research on feminised seeds yesterday and as it turns out, loads of people say this is a problem! It's quite common actually.

So it might not have even been anything to do with me or what I was doing! Which is ace news.

With that in mind a dropped a little email to Sensi Seed Bank to see what they have to say about the matter. They replied today...

Thank you for your email.
We are very sorry and confused about this issue. Would you please be kind enough to provide us with the following information?
• Photos of your male plants
• The number indented in the cardboard backing of the blister pack containing the seeds

We hope we can resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

Felix
Customer Service

I have sent them some pics this evening, let's see what happens next. Maybe I'll get some replacement seeds - that would be a nice little bonus cone.

It's got me wondering tho...are feminised seeds actually worth the extra ££££s?

I shall keep you posted on my progress with Sensi.

Over & Out.

Sorry, last post this evening.

Like I need any more problems.

Pearl is now not only droopy, she also has yellow leaves. And not just any old yellow leaves, but yellow leaves with little black (or brown) dark spots.

The evidence:

I think it's Manganese Deficiency (see here http://www.growweedeasy.com/manganese-deficiency-cannabis ) which happens due to a PH that's too high...which ties in with what eveyone was telling me that my PH was too high! Ta-da!

So now I just need to reduce my PH. Easy....er....does vinegar work?

no problem. the only grow advice I can give you is to KISS keep it simple stupid! :) don't get too crazy some people here like to work things super intricate and that's great for them. but I treat my pot like I do with the rest of my garden I fix problems, but 90% of the time I don't have problems because I keep it simple, and I treat mj like a plant and not a bubble child

Sounds like excellent advice Sunni. I'm trying not to overly complicate things...like you said they are just like other plants and they manage to grow in nature with out all the fuss and bother. So, I'm trying to fix my problem. Do you have any nice natural ways to lower PH without buying chemicals etc. I have read you can use vinegar? Old Wives Tale or true? Lady H x
