220W CFL Cab Grow

Hey all! In this thread, I will be growing 3 Short Stuff Blue Himalayan Diesels. Currently they're 3 weeks old, growing in Miracle Gro Organic Potting soil and being fed General Hydroponics FloraNova nutes. The Miracle Grow wasn't the first (or second) choice medium, lol, but it'll serve it's purpose and I'll be better prepared next time. I refer to the plants by the color of toothpick/sword in their pot. Yellow and Blue look healthy, but Green's lower leaves are yellowing. I assume it's a nutrient deficiency, but would appreciate feedback.

My DIY stealth cab measures 1' x 3' x 3'. The lighting system is four 55W CFLs (2x2700K, 2x5000K) producing 4800 lumens/sq ft on a 19/6 timer. The ventilation is an active exhaust, passive intake powered by a PC fan that moves 51 CFM. Super quiet too. There's a thermometer-baromenter in there as well. Panda film is hung between the doors and cabinet itself to help prevent light leaks. Odor control includes wall febreeze plug-in, an air purifier, and a peace lilly.

I like the lighting setup you made for yourself there. More about that please. Looks like an elegant solution for my cabinet build.

Good luck with your grow too!

Point taken. Make since why I see so many bags and air pots around. I may just wait for my next grow to make the switch though. I've transplanted in the past, and have sent a plant into shock. Granted proper technique would likely greatly reduce such chance.

nice stack of books and plastic containers :P

I try to keep it classy. I figure if I stack the girls on books, it'll be a more cerebral smoke, haha. In all serious, it is pretty sloppy. I'll likely clean things up a bit in weeks to come.

I got the idea originally from another thread, but don't feel comfortable linking to another forum. LUCKILY, it looks like a fellow rollitup member posted an almost identical post here. The only difference is each one of my lights has a separate socket-cord-plug, which is messier and probably less efficient, but it allowed me to be lazy and bypassing the wiring.

'ppreciate the feeback all.

Week 4 Updates

Back again!!
So these young ladies are about half way along their journey. With the help of a few others, figured out my soil pH has been too low. That's been the cause of the yellowing bottom leaves of Green. Blue and Yellow have begun to follow the same path. To help remedy the situation, I flushed the girls with tap water and a bit of baking soda to dilute the soil and bring the pH up.

Hopefully, they'll look a bit better by the next update. As far as this week's update, the pics are below. I added an overhead view to help get an idea of how the girls are filling out

Hey there fellow Rollers!

While preforming magic, I accidentally disappeared longer than Id like, lol. Of course there have been some changes in the past two weeks, and that's what the updates are for.... so let's start updating!

So the girls are all in there proper pH ranges now **cue ominous holy sound effects** They've plumped up considerably as well, especially Blue and Green. You'll see in the following pics, I accidentally let Yellow get dehydrated, so she's looking a tad slim. Speaking of Yellow, her tips are yellowing a bit, which I think is due to build-up. So she'll not only be watered, but flushed as well. Crystal formation is coming along, as well as some yellowing....this time due to maturing however (at least that's what I'm assuming).

Judging by their progress thus far, I'd guess Blue will finish first around 8 weeks, followed by Green maaayybe a week later, and Yellow bringing up the rear. Basing this off the leaves and the cloudiness of the trichomes.

I think that about does it for the updates.....except for the pics. So here we go...Blue, Green, and Yellow respectively

So as you can see, the girls are in their final stretch. The leaves are yellowing and beginning to shrivel, but with that being said I have yet to notice any amber trichomes, though they are very cloudy. waI'm imagining still another week or two until harvest and as such fed the girls water with a touch of molasses. I don't plan on using bloom nutes any further during this grow. Instead the plan is to continuing with the "sweet water" solution until the trichomes are approx 50%, then flush, place the girls in complete darkness for 72 hours, then harvest. So close, and looking so forward to chopping day. Stay tuned!!

I'll be leaving town tomorrow night for a long weekend. So I decided to post updates just prior to.

The young ladies are becoming more and more fragrant. Amber crystals are starting to pop up, and the leaves are starting to drop off.

I'm quite pleased with Blue in particular. She looks to be the heftiest, furthest along, and is exhibiting blue and purple hues. The others are coming along quite well as well to be fair however. Most interested in seeing how my midge, Yellow, yields in the the end. Looks pretty small and unassuming... hoping for a nice surprise though.

Judging by how the girls are progressing, I will likely harvest Mother's Day weekend. I don't think my mom would appreciate this bouquet however, so I'll just hold on to it for myself. My girlfriend won't mind indulging a bit though, lol. I'll see if I can get her to pose with the final dry yield.

Also by the time the girls have dried, the plan is to have a new toy. I'm in the market for a portable vape, and am eyeing either the Pax or the soon to be released Da Vinci Ascent. So we can look forward to both a herb and product review end of May/beginning of June.....hopefully.
