i live in detroit , and my bank is right across the street from a cop shop ,, to walk into my bank you have to be buzzed in .
but i can just walk into any school ?

they need to have the same setup as the banks , locked doors and armed guards

The problem with people carrying weapons is this;

They are more than likely not professionals, and probably have zero training. Putting a regular, untrained, person in a high risk, stressful situation is tough; giving them a gun and expecting them to use it in a responsible manner, that doesn't endanger other innocent people could be extremely difficult.

At what point does your safety get to encroach on the safety of others? What is a reasonable expectation of safety?

To me, if you want to carry a potentially deadly device in a public place where I could potentially be killed by inappropriate use or negligence, you should at least be trained on how, and when, it's appropriate to use.

Except anyone who wants to carry has to pass a written test that asks questions about exactly those things you are worried about. Anyone that wants to carry in a whole lotta states MUST pass a actual test where you have to prove your proficiency with the gun you plan to use.

Everyone with a CCW has been trained in the responsible use of their weapon, you can't get a CCW without proving such.

For some reason you people who are totally ignorant on the subject speak as if you know something about it, but you speak from ignorance. You cannot just walk down to the gun shop, buy a handgun, stick it in your pants and be all legal.

In open carry states, you can do just that: Buy a gun and start carrying it everywhere open carry of a gun is permitted. In CA, there is only a written test and a mandatory SAFETY course. Those courses are between 4-16 hours. That is not nearly enough time to become competent as a combat shooter. My state is normally considered the most stringent with gun regulations, I find it hard to believe that our standard is lower than most other states.

I cam buy a long gun, walk out the door and carry it strapped openly. If I'm picking up a handgun after the check, I can walk out with it in a visible holster.

2 days after the Connecticut shootings there was an incident w/ an open carry activist walking into Walmart w/ an AK strapped to his back. Totally legal, but given the timing totally idiotic.

Yes, we have Armed Guards at banks and other places where there is less risk than outright kiddy slaughter. BTW, the gun controllers don't hold back either. It's just Press bias you are seeing, I think.

That's not true, places like Virginia offer online CCW permits that take no longer than 20 mins. They let you hold a concealed firearm in all Old Dominion states. Don't preach to me about being ignorant when you clearly know as much as you think you do.

If you spent half as much time researching the things you talk about as you do attacking people that don't share your view, maybe you'd get your facts straight.

A gun is persuasive in more words and languages than you could ever learn. That's the whole point, you shouldn't have to talk yourself past someone threatening your life. If you want a mugger taking your property and possibly your life, that's your choice. My choice is to have a gun in a wallet and shoot them dead instead.

If you kill me because you don't know how to properly assess a dangerous situation either by directly shooting me, or by getting me killed by a gunman, I can't very well enjoy my life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness.

Also, article 3 of the Universal declaration of human rights.

"Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person."
