Is one better then the other for veg stage? I have a switchable and am curently useing the MH. Just wondering if the hps would have better results?

MH is better for your veg stage, hps for flowering. I have seen decent results vegging with HPS and even people flowering with MH though.

I have run both veg and flower under both MH and HPS for both phases. 72 girls in a 4x8 table under 3 1K lights. IF there was a difference between the 2 spectrums it would be measured in grams.
It was my 3rd or 4th grow before I had the luxury of both HPS and MH. If I had me 'druthers. I'd druther use MH if I had to choose one or the other, simply because it's easier on the eyes.

Sorry to rob this thread but I have a question of a similiar nature. I am vegging with a metal halide 600w conversion bulb. Seem s very week. I have a lumen meter and that conversion bulb just doesnt quite have it. I could triple my lumen output if I put my HPS bulb in. This is my vegg room. My flower room is a 1000hps. Please and thank you.

Dont get me wrong here,I was talking about having to choose between one or the other. If you have the option of both, by all means use 'em! I just have never been a fan of either dual arc or conversion bulbs simply because of the loss of lumens you get.

Like others I have used both types for both stages of growth. If I can only use one it's HPS. As a matter of fact I have a 1000 watt HPS for 12/12 and due to some enthused planting have more than fit under it. So I have the remainder under a 400 watt MH. Those in the periphery of both lights tend to lean toward the HPS during flower.

Use the HPS for the lumens and sleep easy.

HPS will give ya more lumens, without a doubt. It just fucks with my eyes so bad. Damn good results can be had with either one if you have to go with one or the other. I agree that they will lean towards the HPS when using both (I got the same results as HotRod when I ran my side by sides.) I now switch the hoods around every other day to evenly distribute the lights. Yeah, its a PITA, but thats just my preference. I'm "shickled titless" with my results.

I'd be interested in the CMH brand as well. The ones I used before were all 400w, and I can't seem to find anything bigger than that.

I got it from a local grow store. Dont have a link.

2012-12-18_09-52-52_851.jpg2012-12-18_09-53-07_345.jpgI geuss I get to say yes they do market a 600MHC. LOL. Very, blue2012-12-15_12-02-46_926.jpg

I have a candle power meter. I dont do all the math involved in it, I use it as a reference.
600MHC
1"(away)=20(on the meter)
3"=12
6"=7
12"=2
2 is what I get with my 15w flourescent light I use for clones. This is 12" away.
1000w Halide
12"=60
1000w HPS
12"=75

When my wife gets out of be, she is sick, I will go down and run some test on the HPS 600w bulb. Thanks for that info Jack Herer.
