Was gonna start the scrog, but can't tell gender on some yet... don't really wanna trap them under the netting until I know. I'm fairly sure I got at least two males. One is a pretty hardy anesthetic, the other is a decent Kollossus. I think I'll grow them out in the basement and try my hand at a little breeding.

I've got to check over the other five still, see if I can find any more males mixed in... I'm leaving them all in there for now to take the 12/12 shift and hopefully show more clearly anyway.

Edit: Dang, two of the kollossus are males, and they're both incredibly robust and healthy looking plants, lol.

Okay, so... considering setting up the new mother chamber as a "father" chamber first. So I'll go ahead and set it up the rest of the way but leave it in the basement, faaaaaar away... then I will go ahead and get them on a 12/12 cycle separately...

Getting a hardy chuckle out of the fact that the healthiest, most dense canopies ended up being male, lol. At least I got good male genetics...

My bubbling equipment arrived, I'm bout to start that light bloom nutes batch... just wondering, do I need a cover on my bubbling mix? Is it bad to have light coming into the water while it's bubbling? Cuz I got one 5 gal to my name and it's got no lid, heh. I can makeshift something if I need to though.
yes you want it covered, water + light equals algae. the substance of all life and a bane to your plants roots

Thanks brett.. I had it covered anyway just in case, since I've heard about how hydro systems are better off light-blocked and just inferred from there.

kollosus males... you get some crosses with that you let me know...
Poly those males are crazy vigorous too, the canopies are insanely thick.

I've got to read up on how to choose parents, which traits are inherited from each side, et cetera... I've got a pretty vigorous anesthetic and two quite vigorous kolossus males to work with... and, barring any more males discovered, that leaves 1 Herijuana, 1 Anesthetic, 3 Jackberry, 2 Kolossus females...

Okay, well, my cab's about done. But I'm not too sure bout keeping the plants down there, as it's pretty cold in the basement... I'm not sure there'll be any growth, as it's often around 50 down there if I had to guess... earth's natural heat keeping it warm and all that. I don't plan to add any heating besides the lights... so I don't know how well they'll do down there... I guess as long as they're getting a chance to grow SOME during the lights on period when it warms up.. they're probably gonna be cold at night tho... not sure what I can do about it, short of bringing the cab upstairs and risking cross-pollenation...

So then I thought, well, why don't I just use the males for my raw cannabis juicing experiment and set the mother cab up like I originally planned... haha. I am planning to go clone heavy next anyway, so I'm not too worried about breeding, it was more of a side-train-of-thought, so to speak.

Still considering my options. I would like to get those new seedlings up and running in the mother chamber.

Trying to figure a way I can do both... I don't really need a cab for the fathers. I just need a place where I can get them a solid 12/12 schedule for a while...

if you check out my thread there should be some pics of the tent i use for my males. its just chicken wire rolled in a circle with clear plasic taped on. its the exact size of a 6 qt pot that i always put males in and fits tightly. foil at the bottom and underneath the best looking nodes. then i put them in the flowering room with females. off to side of course they dont need much light since your not looking for yield so they dont even have to be in the direct light.

That's a good idea... not sure I need to go that route, but it's a good solution...

You know I think I'm going to give that a try. I've got a few mothers I'd really like to try breeding with a few other males. Thanks!

Oh and sorry for thread jacking altar! Hope your grow is going well. Just harvested one of my skunks and got 64 grams dry :D

No worries dude.

I haven't peaked at my plants for a couple days, keep going to go at them during 12 hours of dark... not used to that shit yet. ;) Trying to run a semi-night cycle so that they keep warm better at night. I'll get at them tomorrow though and see how they're doing, get some new pics.

The mother chamber didn't fit because I mis-measured... so I cut about 4" off the bottom, and I've been improving it in other ways... painted the inside side panels white; and added a passive intake covered with screen. I've got some light-blocking filter foam I can put over that. for better isolation. I'm waiting for the urethane to dry on the parts I exposed, then I'll be reworking the front door, which was going to be velcro panda film, but the velcro I've got won't stick well to the panda film so it just stripped off when I tried to open it. So I cannibalized the zippers from the door kit I used before, and will be retrofitting them onto the panda film front for a door...

I used the wider name brand Velcro for my panda film, it's holding like a champ. If the zippers don't pan out, I can figure out exactly what I used, if you'd like me to.

hook and loop tape. you can get it mad cheap on ebay i bought a ton of the stuff when i did get it works fukn awesome! but you do have to get the 2 sides seperate for a while. while the glue dries on the back other wise if you fuck with it it will never hold and you will have to get some gorilla glue.

Sup PF... glad to have you onboard... interested to check out your LED results. I definitely think LED will be my next upgrade when the time comes. I've been intrigued with LED for a while, just waiting for the prices to come down on the better products. I feel like we're getting there, but I'm broke right now, haha. Eventually (probably when my T5 bulbs die out) I will sell off my fixtures and switch it up.

I've been especially intrigued with the idea of going 100% LED since I read up on that article about how high doses of 660nm without ANY 680nm causes a "super frosted tip" phenomena... wish I could remember what they were calling it now... it's like a solid mass of trichomes takes over the whole tip of the plant... anyone got a link to that article?

I'm also intrigued by LED due to the low heat output... though I am having amazing results with cooling now that I have my enclosure dialed in. (I repositioned my circulation fan a foot higher so that it's shooting straight across the canopy now and I've got it back down to a 1.5 degree variation between the enclosure and the room it's in, even with 12 bulbs running. woot!)

I like T5's because they are what i've got :0] I'll probably keep the Hydrofarm fixture for a veg. chamber and get rid of everything else for LED eventually. (The hydrofarm fixture is sooooo much nicer than the Radiion fixture I bought off ebay)

But I figure as long as I'm working with what I've got, I'll maximize my potential. So new genetics, new feeds, better soil mix, and my enclosure finally dialed in... not to mention the mods will make it easier to water, so I'll be less likely to put it off like I sometimes have in the past when it was hard to get at the plants!

Definitely excited to see what this setup does... it's a lot of bulbs but the temps are amazing and it's a lot of sidelight so I'm hoping I'll get some great lower development too.

PF, do you have a journal going on your comparison grow?
Hey guys. Somehow my sub to your thread did not lock in. Just came across it again this morning.

My thread is over on IC.

Here's a couple current pics

I used what was left of my plywood and some 2x6's to make a decent box frame. Just have to cover the front and back with some poly and cut a hole for an exhaust fan, and a couple for intake. (which i should have done before I just put that coat of urethane on it, LOL. Oh well, I'll get it between coats)

Anyway... already took off my shoes, or else I'd take pics. haha. I'll take pics when I get the hole cut, put the second coat on, and get the front and back closed up with panda film. I'm leaving the bottom open, and will just throw a couple kitty litter pans I have in the bottom to act as drip trays and a tent bottom in one.

Check this out I bought a 2 X 4 X 5 tent for < $100 (including shipping to FL) http://www.ledwholesalers.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=670

Looks good man... I am trying to fit a box in much smaller foot print tho, heh. I did get the box pretty squared away, I think it should be good now. I'll put the zippers on today and then take pics.

As for the velcro... I think maybe I just held onto it for too long before using it, perhaps the glue was drying out. The backing material was popping off a bit from bad storage and such. I dunno, I had bad luck with it the first run too... same problem... the velcro is stronger than the glue... and yeah, it is the velcro brand hook and loop tape... I dunno why it never worked for me but worked for y'all. Oh well. Zippers work for me.
