60 cents?

So last night I was at walmart and on the way out a fella comes up to me "hey man, can I just ask ya, all i need is 60 cents thats all". I appologized because for once in my life I didnt have a cent on me (only my cards). Otherwise I would have asked his situation and given him like 5 bucks or something. I left feeling guilty I couldn't help and awkward because that situation is always awkward for me, but I just think how awkward it is for him having to ask.

What do you usually do in this scenario? How do you react? How do you feel when it's over?

It is annoying when you are a couple of pennies short orang like your situation you genuinely don't have the money to give them If I have no money I often sit and chat with the homeless, draw them a picture, have a singalong, BIBLE STUDY WITH A RASTA (I know), share any food I may have or a joint/roaches in my pockets.... Hehe

I do not like aggressive panhandlers.
I liked it in the good old days when if you seen a needy person it was easy to
tell they were down on there luck. Now it is a business model to sit on the corner with a sign
and guilt trip my family. I give where and when I feel like it.

depends on how i feel the second he asks. is he sincere? does he make eye contact? does he need 60 cents or did he just ask for 60 cent? i'd rather give money to a guy playing a guitar or a harmonica or tryin to pay for the money through some form of...like entetainment. i give to guys with musical instruments or street painters. just don't ask and expect blindly. earn it. tell me a joke er somethin.

Busking is this highly regulated and structured system down at Pikes Place market, it's really cool to go see them performing.

Funny, a guy outside of 7-11 asked me for 40 cents yesterday...I said "Naw man." and turned my back on him. Though I felt back for an instant, cause I knew I had 43 cents in my pocket as change from my transaction. But he was just sitting outside asking everyone who came out for 40 cents. I knew a kid who was an expert beggar...He could get like 80 bucks an hour...He told me the secret is to be somewhat well dressed, have a sob story and act new to begging and embarassed to be asking for money, and ask for like 5 bucks at a time, not spare change.

I always give. It's not my place to judge or decide what he/she is going to do with the money. I always give more than they ask for too. Ten or twenty bucks every now and then isn't going to bankrupt me.

Haha! I've thought this very thing about my own situation...Wondering sometimes if it would have been better to be homeless and debt free, as opposed to being shackled down to 20k in student loans.

The first time I ever spare changed was at Bike week at Daytona.I was broke,hungry and scared.A big ole SOB gave me a 20.It was sumthin I'll remember.When I lived on the Haight we had all sorts of signs.They were funny as hell.
2 VW buses left San Fran for Boston.We had gas money.The other bus spare changed it all the way.The funny thing is they beat us there.

I work hard for my money so I am very selective about who I give money too. If you want to help people down on their luck, donate money to a food bank or homeless shelter, not to a guy standing outside the liquor store looking to get drunk...

nowadays I live among the rich.Funny thing is they actually think I am "richer" b/c I don't have bills or a 850,000 house,or 100,000 airplane or 100,000,000 boat.So they come and ask to borrow from me b/c their cash is tied up.No bs either

Flute, electric guitar, bass, piano, steel pan (came 3rd in nationals) a bit of violin... Anything really.

Awesome. If you ever come to London, Covent Garden and the Southbank are great street performer spots.

I always joked about the 'fancy' parts of London; 'you know you're in Kensington when the busker's a fucking cellist' lol

If I see them smoking, or see a pack, or butts on the ground around them, I will not give them anything. If they look like a drunk or junkie, no money. Normal people that are down on their luck, I will give to.

I saw a guy panhandling on an off ramp in town the other day. When I drove past him later that day, he was sitting on the ground talking on an apple cell phone smoking. WTF.
