So this is my plan, after many failures

This is me giving rockwool cubes one last chance for starting seeds. I have 1.5 inch starter cubes that I will only use boiled ph-ed filtered water.

I also have a 26w CFL grow light. I know it's not the best, but I only have 2 plants, I'll look into getting a 2nd one.

I'm going to use a 3x3x4 inch grow cube with a hole in the top, and once roots start poking out of the bottom of my starter plug, I'm going to put the starter plug into the bigger cube.

Keep it under the cfl for a few weeks until I get 2-3 nodes. Then I transplant them into 6 inch net pots with hydrotron going into a DWC. Only phed water at this point no nutes until they go to the DWC.

Does this sound like a good plan??

I've lost my fair share of seeds. I used to transplant them after 4 days of them popping once the taproot has poked out of the bottom, but I'm 1/3 with this technique. I'm going to try babying them a lot longer. Also, the bigger rockwool cubes should be more stable in the net pot. Are there overwatering concerns with such a big cube of rockwool in DWC?

What is the problem with the rockwool? you do mean these dont you?
rockwool1.jpg
I use them for my new babies aka clones, havent tried seeds yet...
so farm I have a success of roots 7 out of 10 which i felt was that I was cutting them wrong or something
or not... lol...I do use clonex for the rooting gel..and I soak the rockwool in the nutes before inserting
the clone...dont know if that is how to do it or not but it works...
I havent tried growing the way you do, I dont boil my water, I just use the advanced nutes ...seems
like a lot of work...have a good day

Are they not working well for the seeds? I have not gotten around to trying to grow seeds yet, so far I have only used clones...and I use the rockwool like in the pic of the last post...when you do seeds do you also use a rooting gel? or just insert the seed?...thank you for any info...

no rooting gel or anything like that

I have a decent germ % in the rockwool, but if I transplant them too quickly they don't do well in my tent (250w mh, and much much lower humidity)

so I want to keep them under cfls for longer this time before transplanting. I think on second thought I'm just going to find some 2 inch cubes with the wrapper around them

should do the job...

use peat pellets to start seeds.

No papertowel method. just hydrate a peat pellet, drop a seed in, pop it in a dome, and wait a couple of days.
People make this way more complicated than it needs to be

after asking around consensus seems to be that 1.5 - 2 inch block should be enough to get me where I need to go for transplanting

I guess I'll forget about the starter plug into big cube idea

make sure the surface theyre on is warm. i lost a batch of clone and prolly some seedling too cause i put the tray on the cold basement cement floor and thought the room temp was good and overlooked the floor issue. this prolly isnt your problem, but id like to save someone else from he same mistake
