Okay so I am a first time grower, any suggestions on a feeding schedule. My girls have 2 sets of true leaves, about to go into week 1 of veg. Any sort of advice on how much to use per 5gal smart pot would be beneficial.

First time grower?

my advice is to not use additives. You can do just fine with a 1part line like dynagro or floranova. Don't waste your money on additives if you don't even know what they do. Budcandy is overpriced sugarwater.

Advanced preys on your kind. Check out a library book on plant nutrition. Nothing weed related. Just general plant nutrition

you should add "mother earth tea" from Advanced.
Do NOT do that. That's just ridiculously bad advice without knowing anything more about your grow.

First up, are you getting/do you have the pH Perfect line? Because if you do you DEFINITELY don't want to go adding stuff willy-nilly.

If you haven't bought nutes yet, definitely make sure you get the pH Perfect line because it is fantastic and super-easy to use. The list you have there is pretty close to the Hobbyist level bundle. That's what I'd actually recommend - it's base nutes plus Voodoo Juice, Big Bud, B-52, and Overdrive. You can buy those four as a bundle and save a good amount of money that way. They'll add stability to the pH perfection the base nutes have, as well as the obvious benefits of using them on their own.

If you already have bought the stuff you list, just use that. Don't add more, there's no reason to complicate things your first grow.

Your first grow is like your first time driving. The goal is to get through it without wrecking anything. You can worry about how awesome you drive later, first just try not to bend the metal.

Watch out for the haters also, i tend to notice people like to rant on this brand saying its over priced snake oil which i laugh at these people all the time, go look at some organic growers who pull better bud than alot of people wih about 20$ in nutrient supplies and to them anything more than that is over priced snake oil even brands like GH which people praise over AN.

Either way 90% of AN haters are people that have not used this nutrient and see other people ranting about its price and then they idolize cheaper brands and then these people become AN haters, its a pyschological thing of people wanting to be accepted and when they see people bashing something they obviously dont want to support that so they can get bashed.

Also ive used from humboldt countys own to roots organic and advanced nutrient have done better than quite a few brands including General hydroponics and floraduo, but with that being said organic soil amending and earh juice have had better results than any other nutrient line.

You have a good combination of nutrients so far the only thing I would add is Sensizym and Great White to substitute Voodoo Juice and Piranha

Great white is a awesome product.

One Pineapple express grown DWC with A.N Connoisseur ph perfect, big bid, bud candy, bud factorX, Rhino skin, & overdrive. Pic one is a roll of duct tape that wont even make it over the tip on the main cola. Pic 2 comparison w/ a normal party cup.

I wasn't to fond of the bug factor x and next time will just replace that with a cal mag supplement as I noticed some Ca def along the line. I usually use dynagro but had to try A.N. Now I am running H&G just because I had to try them also. So far so good...Next run will be a.n again with my fingers crossed. im new as well, but know a bit now. you should get mykos or great white. itll make the roots grow out little roots on the side, i think... and the roots does not naturally do that. also, the hydro owner said that Overdrive is a must. and if you want to have bushy colas when flowering, u need some brand of Plant Growth Hormones(which is banned from California, cuz it is said to cause cancer) so thats your call if you wanna put that. i topped mines a little bit late and now regret it; so you should look into that if you plan to top. i LST 1 without topping and it looks just like my topped ones, flowering now but cant really tell if LST is better or not. it looks better though, for now.

i have a nute question as well if anyone can chime in... is it a good idea to use big bud and dutch masters potash+ together? or use big bud for weeks 2-5, then potash plus for 6-7? the hydroshop owner said they do the same thing. and on the label of big bud, it say to put it for weeks 2-5(i think). and the label for potash plus say to put it near the end(weeks 6-7). so is it a good thing to continue feeding the plants this kind of nute that bulks up the plant all throughout the flowering stage? also, if it is ok to feed it all throughout, should i just feed it only big bud throughout?
the label for the potash plus fits perfectly on top of the big buds label. which is why im wondering....

you can feed big bud the whole cycle it wont hurt anything. I wouldnt even use the potash+ I would use a.n overdrive just because I try not to mix and match products from others. You probably could use the potash+ if you want in replace of the overdrive so its up to you but dont use them both at the same time.

dude you dont NEED plant growth hormones for flower...

Those are approved for ornamental plants only and prolonged exposure to them (aka smoking dope every day) will enlarge your liver over time. The PGH you're thinking about is paclobutrazol. Do a little research on it.

Overdrive is not a "must" if you want big buds. The hydro store owner told you that because you're new and they have minimum pricing restrictions (read: minimum profit margins) when selling that product. AN places restrictions on the selling price so that they have to keep it high.

Big bushy buds can be acquired with searching for good genetics. It's not magic products that do it.

Potash+ is a potassium supplement. You should get a handle on general plant nutrition to let you know what to feed your plants, not a feeding chart.

Theres some good advice in this thread thread actually. If you want to make it easy and make it come out good your first go then a PH perfect line is the way to go. I use AN Sensi A/B and like it a lot. You can grow two ways IMO, either try to become a botantist and save some money or plug and play and pay a little more. Ive been doing this awhile and adjusting PH is annoying and just another potential way to mess your shit up. I also agree to not waste your money on additives your first go either, all you really need is your base. That said there are some additives that are worth the money, most do something good but Im a bang for my buck kind of guy so heres what I like at the moment.

1) Big Bud and Overdrive - great flower enhancers.
2) Great White - benificial bacteria to help the roots, seems like a cheaper and better version of voodoo juice/piranaha/tarauntala
3) Bud Candy - sugars feed the bacteria from great white turbo charges them. Thats it, its not a taste enchancer contrary to stoner legends. You can replace this with cheaper carbo load stuff if you want
4) roots exelurator - rooting hormone, its awesome.
5) Rhino Skin - silica add, its realtivly cheap and makes the branches stronger
6) Drip Clean - helps prevent salt build ups in your system.
7) Sensizyme - helps break down dead root matter and resistance to disease. Hydrozyme and cannazyme are the samethings I think

I also like AN products B52, Nirvana, Bud Ignitor and Bud Factor X, but if Im feeling poor I skip them and I definatly wouldnt recommend buying them for a first run.

One more piece of advice is that I would use Coco. Starting with a sterile medium takes all the guess work out of it. Water it like soil, feed it like hydro. Start 3/4 strength and keep the medium moist at all times. Blumats or auto pots are worth looking into.

Good luck.

i was hoping to find a list like this. i didnt start this thread, but im new as well. i wanted to know what KEY nutrients the plants need. like nutes for bulking flowering(big Bud), nutes for sugar(Bud Candy, which the hydro owner said Liquid Carboload was a better option for sugar, is it really cheaper like you said?), and nutes for the roots, then enzymes(which ive been kinda cheap on that and leave it out, doesnt seem important). But im growing soil. im guessing i dont need the Roots Exelurator?

and for the Bud Candy, you said the sugar turbo charges the bacteria from Great White. does that mean you feed Great White constantly? i thought you only need to use mykos once. i have Extreme Gardening Mykos, the non-soluble one, and used it only once. and is Great White better or the Extreme Gardening Mykos Wettable Powder better?

First off I need to stress that you do not need any of those additivees to grow great weed. If you just buy the base nuts, Sensi A/B (or other brands) you will be fine. Im just saying that some additives really help, some are snake oil, and some help but arnt worth the cost, figuring out what is what is the hard part. Also anything beyond the base nutrients is a complete waste of money if the rest of your grow enviornment is subpar. Ventilation, humidity and temperatures are completely key aspects to a grow. Spend your money of these first and foremost.

If I was only going to invest money in one additive it would be the flower enhancers, big bud and overdrive. Other companies have great enhancers also but overdrive and big bud are considered some of the best and if you are starting with AN base then you might as well match them with their product. i would almost go as far as considering these two additives a must.

By carboload product I didnt specificly mean AN carboload, I just meant anything with sugars in it. There are lot of products that can accoplish this all over the price range inculuding molasis. I just like bud candy because it doesnt clog up my drip system and its not really to expensive. Ive used molasis in the past and it can be a little gross to deal with, once I even over did it and stunk out my whole house. I do think if you are going to add sugars you should add beni bacterias also, soil will have some already in it but products like great white, voodoo joice your extreme mykos will just add to it. I have no idea about your extreme mykos but I would guess its in the same neighborhood as the other two, just use it if you got it and change it later if you want. Great White recommneds you use it all the way during veg and first two weeks of flower every feeding. I dont think you need it that much, your just trying to establish colonies of root bacteria. I couldn't say exactly how much is just right though, but I hear people useing it as little as only once when they transplant.

Root exeluator will help in soil. It just stimulates root growth and more roots more fruits. It works in a different way than benifical bacteria's and honestly I couldn't say which one is better if I had to choose bacteria or hormone, I've always used them together. The one I have the least experience with is the ezymes, they are usually more expensive than the other two and its an area I cut corners on a lot, but they work in a different way than either the hormones or bacteria. Enzymes are best to use in mid to later flower after your roots are pretty well established, I think they are less important than either the hormone or bacteria but maybe someone with some more experience will have another opinion.

is soil-less the same as soil when it comes to nutes and theories etc ?
Kind of. Soils usually come prefertilized so you don't want to add much till thats used up. I always had a hard time getting that part right. Soils also hold nutes better so you feed less and just give it water more. Something like nutes, water, water, nutes, water, water, etc. Hydros and cocos you give it nutes every watering usually, or change tanks once a weekish.

My 2 cents is of all of the additives to consider b52 will actually help you over come plant stress ( from too much heat or under/over watering etc) because it is 5 kinds of b vitamins and kelp (good for flowering too). I like it for a boost in veg as well when they are getting established (used at 1/2 strength when they are very young). I concur that big bud and overdrive as suggested are the best flowering additives from AN for a basic program. You could get a very respectable result from sensi bloom, big bud and overdrive.

For help with your roots I suggest a one ounce package of zho from botanicare for 10 bucks and you will get most of the results you might expect to get from great white or piranha in dirt. Apply when you transplant right at the root zone. you do get what you pay for with pirahna ie 5 million spores vs 5000 in Zho but when you are on a budget and starting out it is good enough.

That said as others have alluded to-
Over all you should try apply the KISS method. I'm sure you know it " Keep It Simple Stupid" use a good base. Sensi grow /bloom ( Advanced) or floranova 1 part from GH and maybe one or 2 additives and that's it. feed water water. pick a feeding day. if it's not feeding day you are watering.

I humbly suggest you need to focus on maintaining proper temp and humidity, light spacing, and generally learning how to care for the plant. You will get more out of practicing your plant care skills like mastering training techniques like topping, FIM'ing, supercropping and trimming fan leaves in week 3 etc than anything you buy in a bottle. If you do nothing else but top them once and focus on creating the optimal environment you will be rewarded with a happy plant and a harvest you can be proud of. It may not be huge but you will let the plant express it's genetics and you will learn what it likes and doesn't like. These "girls" are like woman ( no offense meant ladies), some are fat, some are thin, some tall or short and some are easy going and some are a real pain in the ass to please. The difference is that they all will please you in the end if you take care of them and give them the basics. If your relationship with them is based on your flashy car ( nutes) and not how you treat them you will be disappointed in the end. If you put the time into really watching how they respond to inputs ( temp, humidity, light, water etc) you will learn way more than most. Not tryin to preach but we spend a lot of time talking about nutrients and sometimes lose focus.

Lots of excellent advice here on rollitup. Make the most of it. Good luck!

cutting fan leaves.....? im not sure if that is good. from what ive seen, the fan leaves for the respective branch helps grow that branch. but im not certain..
and as for keeping it simple. ive been mixing alot of nutes together and i wanna cut back on it but dont know which should i keep. heres the list: Protekt pro silicate, GH base gro/micro/bloom, diamond nectar, Liquid Karma, B-52, and adding to flowering--- Tomato liquid carboload, bat guano budswel, big bud, potash plus, overdrive.
i was taught to use all that and i really hate having to put so much. i dont even know which is even worth it or just a waste of money.
