DWC users throw out that rockwool and or rooting cubes. Not needed!

You are having to pull rockwool out of your reservoir. That is what is wrong with it.. I never made any mention to your yields, i am talking about how your netpot is setup. If you are getting rockwool in your res then ti's setup wrong lol

How should it be set up? I put a layer hydroton-h.t then r.w then fill w/ h.t. Well no R.W anymore. It started for me when I didnt have it so I didnt use it then relized my clones were rooting FASTER
r.w&h.t fall in. Not every time but it has happened. Hydroton falls through the net cup so why wouldnt or why shouldnt the r.w? What would you suggest a lareger more expensive piece of r.w and a larger more expensive net pot?
please share your set up with me

My hydroton doesn't fall through the netcup. The cup is called a net cup for a reason. Because it's like a net..

As i say, if you're having these issues, then there is simply something wrong with the items you buy or the way you set it up. I get niether pebbles or rw in my res, hence why i do not agree with your reasoning for doing without.

I use a 3" net cup, generic clay pebbles, a 1 inch cube. I put oebbles, rw, then fill with more pebbles till cube is covered, i do not encounter any of the issues you encounter and have to be honest, this is the first time i hav e heard of this issue. As i say, your setup must simply be wrong if you are experienceing this.

I don't know where to start.

Bubble cloners work fine but require more maintenance, IMO. Aero cloners are the shit and can be built for what? $35? Never lose a clone again.

Dipping your clone in rooting gel is pointless in both applications. It just rinses off. ~300 ppm of any grow nutrient will root clones faster then a clonex solution. It's the same fucking shit. Liquid Karma works well too.

Bubble and aero clones can be transplanted into ANY medium. Rockwool can too, but rockwool sucks.

Finally. Why waste money on 2" net cups? Neoprene collar right in the cloner, rooted clone comes out after ~8" of root growth. Then it can go into any size net pot you want. just lay the roots in it and back fill with hydroton. The minimal amount of root damage will benefit the plant in the long run and only slow growth by 2 days. Transplanting to coco or promix doesn't slow growth at all, especially with a mico boost.

Every one of my neoprene collars gets reused this way and I never have to buy a 2" net cup again.

I tried, sorry that you are unable to setup a simple netpot without it failing on you

@ sencha: Your point about wasting money on a 2" net cup is moot for me, as i never use larger, so in the same way you are arguing, say why are you wasting even more money per piece on the larger net pots when you can just skip them and stic with the small ones.

Because a 2" net pot wont support a 4' plant without additional support. If I'm running a few plants DWC, I use bucket lids which are also reusable.

I have a DWC bubbler with 6 clones and it just so happens I put 3 which were done the same way as tip top (way I would normally do it) and I had 3 done in soil which needed to move so I washed the soil off and put them in bare rooted with hydroton like green thumb and all of the plants are doing exactly the same.
So you are both right! lol

I've been thinking of trying this method also, rockwool too slow and jiffys get peat in my res so would be ideal. Plus will stop the temptation to pull the RW/jiffy apart to check whats happening which I still impatiently do from time to time lol.
i do the same thing iv grown to hate macro plugs and have been toying with the idea on just staking my seedlings bare and putting straight into dwc.
what do you think?

I only use 2" net pots with collars and will have 4-6' plants every time. It takes an additional 2 mins and maybe 1¢ in pull to length twist tie to secure plant to outside lip of bucket. Total per plant cost is 14¢ and i dont have to worry about plants tipping over, washing and reusing media, or cleaning.
