My first grow, 400 watt scrog, white russian and blue cheese.

High guys, thanks for stopping in to take a look at my first grow, the grow room is a 2'x5'x8' closet, for veg lighting i currently have 8 6500k CFL's running, its a bit cluttered now i know but once I'm out of veg phase it will be nice and clean, i still haven't gotten the ventilation set up for my stealth veg cab so things are a bit messy in there for the moment. For flowering i have a 400 watt digital ballast, a radiant 6 hydro-farm air cooled hood, and a 450 CFM fan and carbon filter combo from HTG supply. I have also equipped the room with a wall mounted oscillating fan, a flame defender ceiling mounted fire extinguisher, a min/max digital hygrometer, air pots, home made scrog crates, and a smoke detector.

I would like to grow hydro but from what i have read the learning curve is a bit steep so i have decided to go with a soil less premixed soil mix to get the hang of things first and if all goes well i will be switching to dwc in the next grow or 2, this is the recipe i used its a slightly modified version of vic's super soil.

1.0 cu ft ffof
8 cups Bone Meal 0 10 0
4 cups Blood Meal 12 0 0
25 lb pure worm castings 1 0 0
7.3 cups green sand 2 tbsp per gal
4 cups powdered dolomite lime
4 cups kelp meal 0.6 0 1.5
Epsom salts
25% perlite
8 cu feet total

Sadly I've got a few more inch's to go before i flip the switch i think, although i have never done scrog before or grown at all for that matter lol.

8/27/2012 1:00am watered with ph adjusted water 7.0
8/30/2012 8:00pm watered with ph adjusted water 6.9 topped wr and bc for the second time
9/04/2012 2:00am performed dry transplant and watered with ph adjusted water 7.0

Alright so anyways on to the plants, as the title suggest they are white Russian and blue cheese they are both about 1 month and 1 week old and are both giving off a beautiful stench already, the white Russian seems to be a robust plant that is not fussy at all, the blue cheese however seems to be a whiny little bitch and will be headed to the chopping block after harvest unless the smoke is spectacular and the yield is better than i have read recently.

Looks good mate. The little fire suppression unit is is good idea I have mine all protected by RCD's, but fire is always in the back of my mind.

Yeah its a pretty cool fire extinguisher it is automatic and it was pretty cheap to $80 shipped from amazon, although there packaging was not discreet at all, had i known i gladly would have paid more for a fucking plain brown box, anyways luckily i didn't have it shipped to the grow location if i had i probably would have shut the op down because the box says protect your grow room blah blah blah all over it. As far as the fire extinguisher goes i probably wouldn't have gotten it except i ordered a no name Chinese digital ballast and i decided to check out the reviews on it once it arrived and i got the name, well when i did i found a lot of post saying that they were pieces of shit and they would set fire. I'm pretty it was just a smear campaign because it seemed to all be coming from the same few people and they claimed they had bought 1000s of them and 95% had started fires and failed, either way though better safe than sorry the company's pitch for the flame defender is "the cheapest insurance money can buy" and i have to agree for $80 its a hell of a deal, i just hope if it ever goes off no ones sees the cloud of orange dust being evacuated by my ventilation system.

Hey guys, i was just wondering does any one have any thoughts on whether or not it will be possible to achieve 1 gram per watt out of my system once i get everything dialed in? I know its all about having good lighting coverage over the canopy and making sure the plants are never wanting for anything, but I'm just not sure 1 gram per watt would ever be achievable since my canopy is half the size that the 400 watt HPS could cover adequately.

Hey guys, i was just wondering if any one could point me in the right direction as to what is causing my blue cheese leaves to do this, it seems since i started it this plant has had one problem or another but im not sure what to make of this one, i think it might be a cal or mag deficiency because looking at my amendments list i am not entirely sure i added Epson salts to my mix because i dont have the amount that i added listed.

I wouldn't plan on achieving 1g per watt on your first go. I know peeps that have been growing for years and still don't get the 1g per. It took me 3 shows to get close but I didn't get there neither, almost lol. Not saying you can't and don't want to burst your bubble or anything. Just not likely on the first one but you never know, Surprise us Peace

Well I am by no means an expert but yellowing leaves usually means a nitrogen deficiency. If this is the case you will want to use a nutrient solution with a high N rating. I did see that you are using the correct Ph level in your watering so it shouldn't be a nutrient lock out. Although, having too many salts in your watering/feeding solution can cause blockage. If you feel that you have too much salts in your solution then you should try flushing with water or maybe even trying a transplant with some fresh non salty soil. Although that can be really risky. There is a special forum for plant issues. I would also try posting there.

Hey man thanks for taking the time to try and help me out with my problem, but i really don't think the problem could possibly be nitrogen deficiency and if it is I'm sure it must be from lock out, i don't fertilize with watering i have all of my nutrients already mixed into my soil 25 lb of worm castings 1-0-0 in there as well as 4 cups of blood meal 12-0-0 so im pretty sure if it is nitrogen deficiency its gotta be from lock out, it is possible though i have not measured the run off since transplanting into this new soil i will do it tonight when i water though.

I think you will be fine. Your space is more long than wide but it is still big enough that you could get a nice haul. Stretch them out more length-wise and you will fill in your space completely. I'd throw in 2 more cfl's on each plant but that is just me and cfls cost next to nothing to run, unless ofcourse your veg cab is almost completed. Look forward to seeing what you can do. Peace!!

Alright so I've been having problems with my blue cheese so i decided to make a post about it in the sick plants section, https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/560464-plant-problem-progressing-rapidly.html

I am pretty sure that my problem is either magnesium deficiency or lock out because my symptoms seem to match those mentioned in this video, canoeing leaves, purple stems on both plants, leaf tips burnt and curling upward, leaves yellowing from the tips to the stem then developing brown spots, the problems also seemed to have started on the lower end of the plant and are making there way to the middle.

I tried to figure out if the plants are locked out by checking the PH of the run off today when i watered but these god damn air pots leak so much water when i am watering that i am pretty sure that the results are inaccurate because probably a good 1/3 of the water by passes the soil. i don't know what to do now but i am pretty sure that i did not add Epsom salts to the soil when i made it or i did not add the correct type should i get some gardener grade epsom salts and add it when i water or could i fuck every thing up by doing that?

Thanks for the info man i might have to see about centering the light and building some new scrog crates to better fit the room soon, as far as the extra cfls go im going to be getting some t5s for my veg cab so im gonna hold off on that, these plants will be ready to flower soon as long as i dont fuck this up.

That's what I just read to fix a mag deficiency i organics. I'm not organic so i'm not 100% sure. I'd try it but watch closely if u start seeing other problems.

Yeah i just got back from the store, i think I'm gonna start off by foliar feeding because i just watered yesterday and they say that it takes effect quicker if you foliar feed.
