I dont need proof, I am a US citizen. I know my name, SSN, address & birth date. I will be happy to prove that I am a citizen if it ever comes up to law enforcement.
the right doesn't understand the fundamentals of their own Constitution.
I believe This law involves arrest or suspicion of another crime and not that of illegaly being in this country.
If that is so, fine, there is nothing wrong with the law. What you don't seem to understand however is the presumption of guilt implicit in demanding papers from anyone citizen or not in this country. And frankly this lack of understanding goes a long way toward explaining the usually anti-patriot anti-constitutional sentiment on the right.
It is simple, we are presumed innocent until prove guilty in a court of law and we are not required to prove that innocence. We required to bear whitness against ourselves.
When an officer suspects a citizen of being an illegal alien he is presuming that persons guilt and demanding that person prove his own innocence.
See how simple that is? asking for one's papers is unconstitutional in the United States and I fail to grasp how anyone who is a patriotic American who understands his fundamental, God given, protected rights could be for such a law.
BTW - This was prudent.
Bolton did, however, grant a preliminary injunction against a statute making it illegal to harbor individuals suspected of being in the country illegally.
