^ Well, damn. Just had a UV light burn out on one of my HO 240s. I've seen this issue in other threads and it's being replaced under warranty, but shit this isn't good. I've only used it for a month (24/0). Oh well, all i can do is roll with the punches, hope my other Blackstars hold up, and not buy any more of them.
I'm looking for new light in the 300.00 range. I'm looking at
Pro-grow
Fero
Cidly
That is shit news otto, At least they're under warranty... for now.
You just bought those panels, Arent they 2012 models? I ask because I was always told by the guys at blackstar/lighthouse hydro that this was an issue with their older models that has since been rectified. If you have 2012 models and they're burning out like that I'd be seriously pissed.
Well now it's getting interesting! Yeah, I was under the impression they were the 2012 models that I bought. They have the modular power cord and the chrome fan guards on the back. I didn't know about the bad UV bulb issue until it was too late and was hoping it was isolated to just a batch or 2. Looking like it might more of a widespread problem now huh? I bought 2 used and 2 new. In fact, Amaximus, I might have ended up with the 240w you sold on eBay because I bought it Real close to when you sold yours and there were only 2 i think at the time on eBay. Regardless, that used one is still going strong though haha.
I bought the new ones from Gotham Hydro and they are being really great about it. In fact, I asked that they send me a flowering model VS. the veg model I'm sending back to them and they quickly agreed (guess it helps me that the HO Veg model is a few more bucks to start anyway). I should've just gotten all flowering models to begin with (better for dual duty)
My immediate plan will be to keep sending them in under warranty until that's no longer an option, then start replacing them with better panels as needed (hopefully way down the road)
I just went and look at my blackstar and I think it has the same problem, I ll take a picture tonight. I am not gonna bother doing anything though, I didnt keep the receipt from this light. I wasnt going to buy blackstar again anyway...
Whoa. That would mean that they're still manufacturing the panels with the defective diodes, If you have the 2012 models. I was told that the diode problems were not an issue anymore. As far as I'm concerned I was lied to, and indirectly, so were you. This isn't a Gotham problem, This is a lighthouse hydro problem.
I have to be honest with you, I'd return those fuckers. If they're lying about fixing defects with the new models as far as I'm concerned there is zero reason to buy blackstar. Seriously, the two new ones. Why go through the hassle if they were just purchased? I'd return them as defective/false advertising/whatever. If they give you shit I'd dispute the charge with the credit card company. Just replace those fuckers with PG's... They're comparable in price and perform better.
Why go through the hassle for a year just to replace them after the warranty is gone?
Anyway, It feels like I'm shitting on your parade. I'm not. Just giving you a suggestion as I don't see the problem fixing itself.
PS - I dont even know why they make veg models. The spectrum on the bloom model is more than good for vegging.
If I send the 2 new ones back, I would want to eBay the 2 used ones and basically start over. Wouldn't want to mix brands and models up in the tent. Not that it probably matters in the slightest, just personal preference. That being said, I'm too lazy to go through the hassle right now. If this issue happens again I will execute Plan B for sure. If, and that's a big IF right now, I only have this one hiccup and I end up getting some good buds from them this round, I'll push on with them. Still won't buy any more of them though.
Oh, and it's impossible to shit on my parade right now... I'm super stoked to be at the flowering stage now. Only a couple more months to go... about half way there! Can't wait to see the magic happen.![]()
Anyone know if this issue only exists with the 240w models?
Didn't That'smessedup's blackstar 500 start of as a uv failure and then the rows went out after????it's really shitty that they are still sending out units with this problem, it's not a good idea to recommend them anymore IMO...........
