I am done growing. I have all this equipment. Lots of lights, hydro equip, tents, fans, AC, CO2 equipment. I am going to grow me some veggies!

I am figuring tomatoes, green peppers, jalapenos, and some herbs. Anyone else have any suggestions for veggies that do good with hydro?

know about beneficial plants. you can setup certain plants and they will benefit off of one another ! look into it bro. power to u for not wasting your equip, but couldnt u maybe sell it and just use the sun? maybe a greenhouse with some support lights? i feel like it might almost be a big waste of electricity and energy. just a lil input for ya!

The other stuff you mentioned, IDK, but herbs grown hydro (especially alfalfa sprouts) do good .

I don't enjoy growing things outside to be honest. It is too hot here to spend time outside most of the year. Electricity is like 12 cent a kwh here or something. I won't run the 1000w, but the 400w only costs like $0.60 a day to run and the fans might be another 10 cents. 25 or 30 bucks a months is less than I would spend buying veggies at store prices. Not to mention it would raise the oxygen levels in my house since I won't run the co2 on it. Its like an air scrubber:) The biggest reason is I love growing hydroponics.

I'm not a hydro grower but I've always heard peppers don't do well in hydro setups. Maybe somebody can attest to this??

Peppers, peppers, and more peppers.

Save the tomatoes for outdoors, I find the yield disappointing with indoor tomatoes and they stretch like crazy, turning your indoor garden into a jungle fast. Peppers, however, seem to do well. I had more than I could handle from an ebb-and-flow indoor pepper setup and ended up having to freeze, can, and dry a ton. Jalapenos and Thai (Santaka) peppers are recommended for starters. Just realize that you wont start seeing any fruiting for at least 60 days from seed.

My motivation for tomatoes is to have them all year long. Keep in mind I am a seasoned hydro grower, just not with veggies! I have a 12x14 room to devote to the garden, and I would like a tilapia tank of 4-500 gallons in the room too and maybe use them to feed some of the plants. I figure I can run the 400w over the tomatoes and peppers and have the herbs and lettuce on the outskirit and still have room for my tank and moving around. You can only eat so many hot peppers. If I jar 10 jars that will be a couple years supply for me. I can probably put down 100-150lb of tomatoes a year though if I had them at hand.

I want to be able to go to grow room, sit on my chair and chilax with my plants and fish while having a beer.

Hydro grown food will be missing a lot of nutrients the soil usually gives that hydro is missing, they'll taste bland. Mixing up ferts for all the different plants isn't going to be an easy task either, everything needs different amounts.

I have had really good tomatoes grow indoors in hydroponics. Most people who say that are comparing them to store bought tomatoes which are picked green and aren't ripe. Ive had early picked tomatoes in the midwest that were grown in awesome soil but tasted bland due to being picked early since it was about to frost. I think a majority of the problem with store bought tomatoes is picking easily shipped genetics over good tasting ones, picking early, and refrigerating the tomatoes.

I had a talk with the head guy at epcot about flavor in hydroponics when I was doing a tour of the labs and he agreed with me in large part. Having had the salad there, I have to say they have pretty good veggies.

so you wanna do aquaponics? i would be so interested in this if i had the room. my local shop has a aquaponics set up but a smaller 4x4' table above a maybe 300 gallon tank. they just opened or are about to open a big aquaponics farm about 45 min away from me. store bought tomatoes are riped with nitrogen gas and have a hormone that makes the tomatoes tuffer to with stand shipping. i went to there when i was at epcot but that was about 5 years ago when i wasnt into this. so i dont remeber much of anything there i wish i did it seems real cool now

I didn't say I wanted to fish, I want to farm tilapia:). I have a boat, but you can't fish every day after work.

I'm the same as you. I gave up smoking (hence growing weed) about 18 months back but still kept using my old low powered veg lights (250w) and 2x4 hydro table for growing other plants in a cupboard.
It tends to get used for tomato/cucumber/pepper/aubergine seedlings in to get an early start in spring for the garden and at the moment is mainly being used for a new experiment in 'bonchi', bonsai chilis. given enough light and warmth, chillis will fruit perpetually and respond well to scrogging (I have it set up as a U-scrog due to height/space restrictions). For peppers, I'm told you want flower nutes throughout.
I tend to germinate in soil in a heated propogator then wash roots and transplant straight into hydroton. If the plant is going into soil later, I simply pull it out, remove the clay balls, plant it, water in and feed a week later. Haven't lost one yet.
The only disappointment I have had is with Sweet Basil. I put this down to the ec of the res being too high for it. I still persevere with it though and have 3 single basil plants in there at the moment. It's not that they won't grow, it's just that they only grow at about the same rate as soil plants outside.
I recently grew a single GHS big bang in there for our birthdays and it looks like we will end up with a solid 6 oz (not finished drying and curing yet), whilst still producing stock for the garden.
Even for weed growers, why not utilise that wasted space in the canopy during early veg?
A $20 heated propogator and a South facing window or couple of cfls mean you can be germinating in the middle of winter and getting a good head-start to the season.

peppers love hydro i have a bishop crown pepper that i saved from a pot and the dam thing is thriving!!! they can be in solution longer with a weaker solution since they grow oh so much slower =) so worth it though! the pepper scene is pretty intense too i got a couple super hots me and my brother are trying to sprout =D

Not jalapenos. Suggest sweet bell peppers (love 'em stuffed!) and fresh herbs sell HIGH DOLLAR at farmers markets besides making your food literally come alive.

Green leafy herbs like cilantro, basil, mint, etc go absolutely bonkers in a hydro vegetative setup.

You'll be eating so many salads, you'll grow hooves!

I have always daydreamed about being watch by the cops and them getting a warrent to bust me growing indoors and have nothing but peppers, tomatos, eggplant basil in there and just be like oh man...u got me ..and then offer them some veggies. LMAO! my bro is a local officer too. I just think that would be sooooo funny. Then I could give my bro shit joking around about his police dept.
