Trying to subdue and capture some cracked out motherfucker in the middle of the night is a good way to become a victim.. that's all I'm saying.

I had a break in about 2 years ago, almost shot the kid. I recognized him at the last second as he was standing at the bottom of my stairs pointing something up at me. He's the luckiest guy I know because he was a split second from being a stain on my floor. I'm glad I recognized him, I worked with the kid for 3 years but he'd never been a friend or in my house. He was wasted and didn't know where he was, smashed a window on the door to get in.... My daughter had been sleeping on the couch when he came in and he scared the shit out of her.

It took months before my wife and kids were able to sleep decent, every little noise at night would wake them up in a panic. It's not something people should have to endure. Your house is your castle and you should feel safe in your home.
I have no problem with the judicious use of deadly force to defend you and your family.

The story you share here about recognizing the kid breaking in is what I urge people to be aware of: very often a family member or friend, sometimes drunk, sometimes mentally ill and confused, finds their way into your home in the middle of the night, and you end up blowing them away. I can't count how many times I've read awful stories like this - I think there was one where a deputy woke up to someone in his bedroom, and shot at the shadow, well turned out it was his wife. Another similar one, this guy killed his 5 year old granddaughter. Be sure you identify who it is as there's a very real chance they're someone close to you.

Yes that is s true. I woke up one night to something clanking around in my kitchen at 3am and then I saw a flashlight.. Grabbed a baseball bat and damn near smashed my 6yr old in the face.... She sure got an ass chewing tho... Scared the hell out of me, not the intruder, but the fact that I almost hit her. It was very out of the ordinary though and would've never expected it.

workin security in a big old wooden two story Texas kickker bar. 1 late night I heard someone walking lightly across the upstairs dance floor. Being a dumfuk I stalked up the back servants stairs, the last bit doing a slow belly crawl. As I inched an eyeball around the corner I was ready for anything (well except I was unarmed)

A good idea I heard was to rig your house with airhorns and strobe lights, and have a control to flip it all on if you get broken into... it scares the shit out of most burglars and sends them running, and also makes sure you can identify whoever is there.

Purk, I would never torture or execute someone, unless they caused harm to my children or wife. I agree people can change, but I also believe that if someone breaks into your home you better be ready and willing to lay em down.. Ever watch the news? This isn't the days of Mayberry anymore. People do some fucked up shit these days and I won't take a chance on my family being the victims.
Also, if you're breaking into someone's home, that means you're willing to die.

On some level, they know the consequences of their choice can be fatal. That's very close to being willing to jump in front of a moving train. Phycological details are of very little importance to me when I must get a job done. Everything will come down to split-seconds with an intruder. I'd be lucky to knock em out. Identify Subject(s)- this is a must before you take action. Then go all-out, or you die. There is no grey area.

It's a frightening scenario most of us will be lucky enough to never experience.

Good thread here. Good writing. Props.

I have had the misfortune to experience this. I was taken by surprise and unarmed. Ended up with a knife to my throat. It was not a good day. I would hope that any of us were to face the same scenario they would be doing so with a gun in hand.

Purk thankfully you are here to convey.. the experience must have unimaginable.. like one of the recurring dreams, but for real freaky. yers sounded up close n person.. / i blindly went around a corner once and had an ultra close call w/ a club/batton towards noggin, thought i was someone else, shit almost changed in an instant like some i knew.

Yeah LordJ's on a positive note... most of us are lucky enough to never have to experience the bad shit... So true. Yet it is surprising how many of us just livin' have had run-ins. w strangers or family. or witnessed some atrocity. Still odds look good  here's to keepin it wholesome from here foeward..

I'm glad idiots like this get thrown in prison, I actually got robbed at a gas station for my MM and it was recovered and police are charging them with robbery, this was just a week ago.
