Excellent post. Well presented and packed full of information. +rep.

One question, can you recommend me a good store to purchase a purple (dual spectrum) CFL and would the plants benefit from having this light all year round if I added and extra blue for veg and red for flowering?

super thanks, I'm bout to start growin and I wanted to grow with a 400w hps, I got a ballast and then found out that it need some ignitor thingy that costs 50$ and it's just to complicated, with cfl's I just plug em into the wall and I'm growin!
althought I'll probably switch to hps after I get the hang of it

I have some questions about CFL's.
I think I finnaly got the right type of bulb.
i have 4 23 actual watt CFl. Over only my one marijunan plant. And I don't think it's growing looks like its dying...
the bulbs are 5000k which I thought made it grow but I'm not sure.

got more pics and a question, saw 2 or three amber trichs today, wondering how long it should be now before i harvest, i was going by weeks but the plant is from a clone so it's more mature then from a seed. any comments are appreciated.

I've been going over the information on cfl's lighting. I am a bit confuse on set up's. ! plan to grow 2 plants, what type of lights and how many are needed to have a good grow. I just want to keep it simple. It just seems theres so many set ups with the lights, which I understand depending on the amount of plants. For 2 plants,4 125 w cfl bulbs good enough? If not ,hhelp and advise would be appreciated. Again, just asimple setup.

This is my newness showing. I have a spare bathroom all for myself, the standing shower is 2.5 x 4ft and I currently have started 15 plants, I am expecting to lose a couple because obviously a week under a 120 watt grow light might be stretching them. They are all transplanted and I am shopping bulbs. I almost bought a metal halide when I realized I needed a ballast and I was not going to throw 130 bucks on one for some bag seeds.

Anyways, so I have an order put together for some mylar emergency blankets I will attach to the surrounding tiled walls, cheaper than paint and cardboard, and I am purchasing these lights

2 Pack of 105 watt 6500K Daylight Full Spectrum bulb, looks like it is marketed for photography.
3 Pack of 42 watt each says 2700 Lumen giving 150 watt each of light.

I have the 120 Conagra grow light in a clamped reflector about 1.5-3ft from all my babies, prob gonna lose some, that's life.

Should that cover me through until flowering? I need to hunt down either a used vanity lamp deal or find those Y connectors for the sockets. I also play classical music from an Ipod softly with a little fan going, temp is always 78-85 and has plenty of ventilation. Generally if I am home alone I leave that bathroom door open (Locked any other time) I am glad I looked into this CFL deal some more and not the metal halide for now, if I had went that way I could rely on my bill rising $74-78 a month and it's already outrageous, and since I have no intention of selling, this is strictly personal, I won't have a bunch of dough afterwards to upgrade my system. It is hitting 94 here daily so I am uneasy about letting them go into the sun most of the day.

Opinions? Thoughts are appreciated and helpful.

am using 2 65 w 27k ,2 105 w 55k and 12 32 w 27k with a total of 40600lumens .its all about lumens and light placemen wit cfl. i rigged mine up with a few powerstrips and socket and ysplitters.. its wrking awsome just use as much light as u can throw in there for me using cfl if u have 200 w per plant that shoulld be good u will see good veg growth and wen u flip over to flower u can use the same light setup .. onthing is u have to adjust your lights as they grow cuz u need ur cfls as close as possiblesnd u dont want any shadows under your plants if u so then its not enough light and u need to adjust your prolly gonna get a couple leaf burns if u dont ur lights aint close enough..lol

how come I didnt see you mention 4100k cool white cfls? in MJ Horticulture (THE BIBLE) it says 4100k is perfect growing vegetative plants as it lessens internodal branching.

have you had any experiance with 4100k cfls?
