The Getting Back/In Shape Thread

that's one thing I hate doing, running. I love lifting weights and stuff but to just go out and jog is tough.
Yeah dude, the first step out the door is always the hardest, once you're out there, it's more like "fuck it" till you get a little stamina built up, then more normal, then you feel superhuman! I remember climbing a wall a little above my height, easiest shit ever, no problem at all, tried it again a few weeks ago....

I have 0 motivation and stamina atm. I know I really need to change my life and get fit and bigger but it's tough, especially as its like a struggle to even wanna get outta bed these days. Well it's been like that for a while. I know lack of exercise contributes to depression and I'm not helping myself, just hard to know where to start. I think I'd rather find a gym then wander the streets though. Nowhere to really run here

Day 3 - May 19, 2012

Rested

Day 4 - May 20, 2012

Distance: 2.92 mi

Duration: 50:32
Calories burned: 213
Average speed: 3 mi/h
Pace: 17.14 min/mi (long uphill walk)

Notes: So after 3 days of consistent exercise I'm barely starting to notice the slight increases in stamina. Nothing substantial yet though. Been eating much better than usual, and have dramatically cut out soft drinks and have stuck to mainly water since the 16th. I tend to stay up pretty late which is sometimes an issue for late night snacking, but I've been countering that with fruit or water lately.

cool thread. i was a wrestler (no, not WWF) in high school and college. maintaining weight was never an issue. after college i went from 189lbs. to 248lbs. in about a year. i was such a lardass. soda and junk food was my downfall. took me about 2 years to get back into good shape.

some great info on here. running is not for everyone. the best exercise for me is swimming. even if it's just the breast stroke. like the OP said, you gotta let yourself have a little indulgence every once and a while too. just not everyday.

It's all good man, I got chubby too. No need to post with an alternate account, even if somebody made fun of you, fuck em, it's just the internet. But whatever, it's all good, do what you wanna do.

I'm taking some pictures soon too, fuck it

psh im past chubby
Last year when I started working out I was maybe 5-10lbs overweight, not bad at all, it was really easy to get back into it. This year it's like twice that, but 3 times as hard to get back into the groove! You just have to know and keep reminding yourself that it'll eventually get to a point where you want to get up and go do it. The healthy, fit weight is worlds away in terms of energy level, happiness level, I notice it especially makes me want to get out and do a lot of different things I normally (now) wouldn't want to because they require a lot of physical activity, like rock climbing or flag football or frisbee or something like that. Also, mid 20's, gotta do it for the health reasons, such fat ass people here, man I don't know about you but that's kind of embarrassing, I'd hate for our ancestors to see how many of us have turned out today, "I fought and died for that?"

Day 6 - May 22, 2012

Distance: 4.37 mi
Duration: 53:39
Calories burned: 477
Average speed: 3 mi/h
Pace: 13 min/mi

20 push ups

Also thought it might be useful to post what I'm eating, as I'm trying to keep track of that too

Breakfast: 7am 1/2 a bowl of cereal, 11am 2 pieces of wheat bread with peanut butter

Lunch: Ham sandwich with tomato, red onion, bell pepper and spinach on wheat bread, 1 small yogurt, 2 apricots, some chips (empty calories)

Dinner: ? (suggestions?) Maybe some baked chicken

Notes: Insane increase in stamina today, I looked on youtube to see if I could find some good pre workout foods to eat because the previous day I gassed the fuck out and had to cut it short. Dude suggested wheat bread with peanut butter so I tried that and it seemed to have a great effect, I could run longer and recover faster. I'm thinking tomorrow I'll try the same thing but with a banana too. Also noticed because of that it got me a little excited to see if that's what it was for tomorrow. Hopefully I can find a few good combinations of foods to eat before to keep the gas tank full. I hear hard boiled eggs are great for that too.

More Pro-Tips;

-eat 60-90 minutes before you workout

-stay away from white bread, once your body starts digesting it it's essentially empty calories as the nutrients have been removed, switch to wheat bread or whole grain

Im 51 and in the best shape of my life, here is the trick, have a heart attack and get last rights in Intensive Care unit. After you kick the Priest out and tell him you dont want to die stick to your statement and get to the gym as soon as the doctor says it is ok. lol No shit it works. Oh, stay there for a few years and when you get naked you will be impressed. Cardiac Intesive Care Unit is a very quiet place, just saying.

good routine Pada .. i gotta get back to runs myself.... i found about 35# this winter lol current # is 243 ... need to get back to 210

try throwin this into the mix .. when you wake up, do pushups til failure ... i do em right on the bathroom floor before a shower ... then do em again at night before you rack out.... if you want you can throw a set in midday to ... always till failure tho , dont even bother keeping count ... you can do it for situps to if you want. In a week or two youl be able to rip more pushups than you ever have ... helps if your not weight training ... pull up bars are fuckin mint to if you can rig one up

mine is slow to , it could be a few diff things ... low cal food intake can keep it from getting higher ... when you exercise try adding a lil weight to the routine or try taking the pace higher if you can. Peppermint or Green tea instead coffee in the Am helps a lil to
