Aussie Growers Thread

oh and also as some of you may already know airstones are a very inefficient means of aerating water you are much better off using the waterfall effect or fluming to aerate water. also air stones effectiveness can be severely hampered by the salts in nutrient solutions as they tend to build up in the tiny holes.

probably just repeating the basics here but sometimes a reminder can be a good thing.
Yeah that makes sense, they will also take up breeding IN your airstone lol.. however if you do have beneficial bacteria it usually makes your res pretty foamy as they produce a natural bioslime to colonise.

When im brewing up bacteria I just use an open air tube for big bubbles as ive found this keeps the foam down a bit. Also they'll breed real fast so you res will probably need flushing more than the plants!
eg they need food in the res, they eat and breed at the same time making the water more viscous and making any bubbles linger into foam.

EDIT: at a guess I'd say the perlite is to "re-seed" a flushed res with new bacteria.

What ,even with the lights attached ?
The idea is once your lights are attached to the yoyo you tighten the wing nut and you can pull the light up or down ,and when you let it go it stays put.

yeah once they have weight on them just adjust the wingnut until yu find the sweet spot then you can raise and lower and as soon as you take your hands away they will just stay where u want them like magic. welcome to a world without chain hassles your gonna love it.

I'm all about bennies! I have an aquarium filter pump, running through glass noodles, on constantly with a venturi air intake circulating through the res on my big tent. It gives good aeration from the venturi and the glass noodles are full of bennies! If you clean the gunk out you never use tap water as the chlorine in it kills them all and though they will recolonise fast, stability is better if you don't kill them every week and start again as they take a few days to get cracking.
The return pipe is big and high so it gets a good waterfall action every couple of hours too.
Yay for yoyos! Once you get them in and worked out you won't look back.

experimenting with some hand watering coco now. just doing a few germination tests. i have 2 plushberries that i have cracked in papertowel that will be going into coco tomorrow. one is going into virgin coco with just water the other one is going into coco pre charged with a light mix of grow a & b + a touch of roots excelurator. see which one survives or does better. also i put down 2 seeds today one dinafem cheese straight into pre charged coco and a dinafem super silver into virgin coco with just water.

just wondering what other peoples experience has been with germing into coco?
im going to continue my experiments either way but jst some other input might be helpfull

Ive have germinated in straight coco and had no problems but with no nutes. I always pre soak my coco in ph 5.8 full strenght nutes a few days before i plant my seedlings or cuttings . Then when i transplant i drop the ppms to about 600

I should add i always wash the coco with straight phd water and wait for it to totally dry and then i use my hands to kind of siv it to make sure there isnt any chunks and then start the pre treating with the nutes.

I have used coco a couple of times for extras etc but never properly started or finished anything in coco, it was only ever a "Shit where can I put this?" effort so no real input there, good luck.

Yeah I'm sure with our bud fetishes we all get our ambitions mixed up with our capabilities occasionally. Time was I'd just bang them in a pot in the yard but can't do that these days.
