Rest is for pussies. I don't have to do anything with the import business. I pay people to run it. Building homes is fun and I definitely enjoy it. But I'm not some huge developer. I do 1-2 projects (12-16 month builds) a year and have a few that I am holding onto as vacation rental properties. Have a few girls that work for me and manage those. Labor is cheap in Central America. I'm on the jobsite a few hours every day if that. No need to be. I have good people that I trust and a business partner who helps out with that end of it. Honestly, I spend most of my time sportfishing and travelling. I fish 10-12 WBS tournaments every year in the Easter U.S., Caribbean, and the Pacific Coast of Central America. I used to have a thread about sportfishing till it got erased during the hack. If you like I can throw up some pictures of some of the homes I've built and some pretty crazy sportfishing photos? Up to you. Drawing up a plan for someone on a simple sketch software that we use everyday takes me all of 5 minutes. It's a software program we use to layout design ideas before we autoCad them. Figured I'd actually give something back to this community as I have taken so much knowledge from it.
Let me know if you wanna see what REAL sportfishing looks like.

Costa Rica has relatively low income taxes and no sales tax. Also very low property taxes and no social taxes. They do have VERY high import taxes though. It's their way of taxing the wealthy because it's usually only the wealthy that are purchasing imported items. This affects almost everything that is imported. Mostly electronics, cars, and building supplies. For example; Toyota Tundra fully loaded in the U.S. $50k, in Costa Rica $80k. PS3 in the U.S. $300, in Costa Rica $600. It's like that for TV's, shoes, sporting goods, etc... I can't tell you how but I have the ability legally to import items without having to pay those taxes. In the beginning I used it to import all of our construction materials (drywall, meter mains, electrical cable, power tools, appliances, plumbing fittings, etc..). This gave us the ability to build for almost 40% cheaper than our competitors. Which meant I could sell the homes I built much cheaper. Then we starting importing things for friends and other developers; pretty soon it became a full blown business. Now we import roughly 30-45 shipping containers a month. Average markup after shipping costs is 32%.

I've wanted to move to Costa Rica for a long time but missed the "window" on the really CHEAP land prices. I know it's still MUCH more affordable than anywhere in north america .... but not quite cheap enough for my pensions 
For the last three years I've been researching other "retirement" digs. I've made my mind up... I am bound for Ecuador in the next two or three years (the missus and I are going there this fall for a "fact finding" trip).
KUDOS to you for finding your place in the sun! Hoping to find my own soon

It really makes a lot of sense to create a ghost account and use your 10 posts in this forum to harrass people. What do you care about my room. You'll never smoke it or see it.
