Dan Nirvana says they are a 7 week (49 day), to 9 week (63 day), strain. But other have said it's a 9 to 10 week (79 day) or so strain. I don't see any amber color in the trichomes and not all of them are cloudy about 50/50 I'd say on the buds. There maybe just a hint of amber today but no real percentage of it yet.

I'm looking for pain control and help with sleep so I am thinking I'm going to be on the long side. It is driving me crazy because I need them to be done NOW! The clones need the big light LOL. Anyway I flipped them on February 6th so I'm just reaching the end of the 7th week and beginning of the 8th week. I think I counted that right?
Ok. cool. Definitely wait on picking them then. But check them every day, they are very close.

When to harvest ? Here You go :weed:
Thanks Zoltan44x! Good images. Last week when Rodan plunged into the NFT tube caging her up broke a branch or two which I carefully trimmed, laid out, and then put in a jar. It's still a little more moist than it should be but last night I tried it. I actually got high off my Nirvana Aurora Indica.

I was very surprised with the high. It was not at all like the Pre-98 Bubba Kush that Collective Gardener supplies me. It had a sort of creeper high. At first there was nothing, then about 15 minutes in I started to feel some rushing, like the weed of the 60's & 70's! I got dizzy from it and a little edge of anxiety! Just exactly like the Sativa's of old too. I did not care for that. However that passed and around the 30 minute mark I started getting the head effects, cloudy, relaxing and happy.

So as of last week the girls weren't ready for harvest. I find I need to smoke every fourth night for pain suppression and opiate reduction. With the morning after I smoke I usually feel the best. However the morning after Nirvana's AI I do not find any change in my pain. I'm hoping the pain suppression component will come with further maturation.

So I'm surprised that the bud I grew got me high but so far disappointed that it seems to have little to no pain inhibition effect. Let's hope that comes with the amber trichomes. Oh and for even such a quick dry the smoke wasn't harsh and had a light fruity taste. But so far no help with the pain.

annie! don't be so quick to be disappointed.... the increased cloudy/amber and the cure might help more than you expect. i find anything i smoke within the first couple weeks after harvest gives me what i call the "roller coaster feeling" - indica OR sativa. especially if it's an immature test nugget.
if the high finished off nicely for you, that's a good indication that it'll mellow out for you with a bit of age and time. :)

Thanks mellokitty, that's what I'm hoping. But remember I'm comparing this to what collective gardener supplies me with so that is a very tough act to follow, LOL. I had previously tried a bud 1 week earlier and not only did I not get high but I also got a headache from it. So from 1 week to go from headache to high makes me hopeful that as it matures the quality of the high may change. Hopefully the intensity will as well. So I'm still waiting to pull them.

mellokitty is there a way to effectively quick dry the bud? So it's less than a week from cut to sample?

yes, well, i'd expect that the stuff that mr decades-of-growing/smoking calls his "superstrain" would be a tough act to follow...

on the quick dry: the thing is, the closer a dry process that the sample nug goes through compared to your main harvest, the better indicator of your ultimate quality it's going to be. i know some folks like to use a food dehydrator but i find this gives it a more hay flavour than the finished product. (i guess the idea is if it tastes ok in spite of the hay-ness, they expect the finished product to be even better)
the quickest dry we do is with a room dehumidifier. but then, we're not really in the habit of deliberately taking sample nugs (we always end up with plenty of "oops i knocked it off" samples).

If You slice the buds into little peaces, they'll dry much quickier and still keep their taste.

But normally I just let them dry in a cool dark place without humidification.

Yeah he grows some wicked stuff. His genetics are spectacular and he's also very skilled. So I have a long way to go I think. Around here our humidity is like 10% so a day out and into a jar worked well for getting them dry and after several days in jars the hay smell disappeared. But it wasn't a real strong hay smell to begin with. So I may just try it after a day on the counter. It's going to be a really tough decision on when to pull this. As far as intentional sampling I have to be honest, the dog manages to finagle his way into the grow room and jumps and breaks branches for himself to nibble on. So what's left over I take from him is my sample system, LOL

It's actually funny. The dog is frantic to get to the pot.

Good idea, although the dog usually breaks off the lower easier to access branches and I try to use his left overs so I don't feel wasteful LOL.

Well here's the latest pictures. It's now day 63, the beginning of week 9. The trichomes appear clear and a few are beginning to cloud a little. I am surprised it's taking this long. Also when Rodan fell on her upstream sister's roots she did some damage. No matter the temp or humidity AI #1 looks wilted like she can not get enough water/nutrients in her system. I'm wondering how ratty these poor plants will look by the time they are harvested.

Also I tried some of the bud that broke from 2 weeks ago and last night tried a sample that broke off Friday. It was a little moist but it supported combustion and I have to say it got me high but didn't do much for my pain and that is a problem.

Can you take a close up of one of the buds?
Dan, thanks for asking. I'm going to just upload a BUNCH! Look through them and tell me which ones you'd like to upload in high resolution. I didn't want to post page after page when you might only need a handful.
Thank you for helping, my poor plants are looking really raggedy except for the girl furthest away from Rodan. She is the green gorgeous beauty.

You're getting REALLY close to finish there. Make sure you check em every day
LOL I'm checking them like every 10 minutes, ha! I just keep staring at them through the loupes. The trichomes don't seem to be changing much :/ still a bunch of clear! How quick can it go from clear -> cloudy -> amber?

Dan if you look at the fourth one from the left in the middle row do you see the way the fan leaves are sagging? Like the leaf turgor is reduced. Nothing I do fixes her. That's the one that Rodan sat on her roots for well over an hour. I haven't had any visible root die off but then again she did something because the leaves look so sad. I'm not sure that AI #1 will really get finished. It's like she's just slowly dying. I'm thinking since I need the light these plants are going to be perverse and refuse to finish for another month. At which point I'll have all the same canopy problems again!

Well if a plant looks like it needs to be pulled, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Keep in mind the trichomes will still mature during drying/curing.

Turns out Rodan died the day she fell through the NFT tube. I started worrying because the leaves around the colas were getting brown and dry and blowing away so I finally chopped her and her upstream sister who grew no more after Rodan sat on her roots. So Rodan who should have been the highest yielder and first done simply dried up as did her sister. I chopped and trimmed them and they were dissappointing.

The two which are left AI 3 and AI 2 look good. AI 2 the girl closest to the reservoir got everyone's left over nutes and she's turning out the loveliest. Today or tomorrow 3 and 2 will be coming down and the new table will be going in to take the place of the NFT tube. I have a problem though once the 4x4 table is in place I will only be able to reach the plants from the front and about 2 feet on the side. I'm using my external NFT manifold to run tubes to each pot so I'll simply top feed them and drain to a reservoir. I could transfer in the 3x3 tray but I'd planned to keep that in the tent and use for clones and the mothers.

Wow, great job !! You will be very happy with the AI. The buds look great, beautiful color. Very nicely done. You should be proud.

Jessy
Thank you Jessy! I am very pleased with the fact I simply didn't kill them :) I can kill almost any plant so taking these 2 to maturity was amazing and I'm ready for this coming October. I plan to be ready.

Have been folowing for a while C2G and I must say I am very impressed. Great job and +1 rep to ya!
Thank you so much! I am so proud of myself and so much of it is from all the support and help I have gotten on this site.

I don't usually do to well growing things. So now I'm utilizing my equipment to get my summer seeds for the garden. I've got Alyssum, Sunflowers (Mammoth and Chianti), Cosmos, Columbines, Roma Tomatos and I'm getting ready to plant seeds for Flax, Sweet Peas etc...... The pot really gave me a confidence boost. I'm so happy. I've saved so much money on pony packs for the garden! Whooooooo hoooooo what a way to justify the growing supplies.
