dam that is a insane setup. unfortunatly ill never be able to get my hands wet with aquaponics but it is pretty dam cool, a completly self sustained system that makes its own organic(?) nutrients

i want to see how much u yield matty. how big is the screen u are going to use.. i know it was prob mentioned earlier in the thread.
the screen is 16x20 in with 160 holes and the blue cheese is in a 10 gallon tote. i really want to vegg untill almost every hole is filled but it may not happen, dont really want a 9 month veg time

Recently harvested a blueberry gum.. The taste was spicy sweet.. Unfortunately, this strain started popping bananas about half way through.. I got a little over ounce

That's Hilarious.. maybe he didn't want you robbing his stash?

Hey thanks a lot man.. all I've been doing now is reading about aquaponics now. There are some cool vids on youtube where people are raising their own Talapia, growing lots of veg and using the fish wastes as compost in their vermicompost!

i think the fish shit is the fertilizer for the aquaponics system. i think its organic growing too wich is really cool.. glad you liked it. my gf keeps getting mad at me when i watch videos cuz she knows when i get a idea in my head im not satisfied untill i try it.. i bet 2x 10 gal totes a small pump and a 20gal fish tank would setup a decent little aquaponics system that could probally grow 4-8 plants.......if you get into it lemme know im interested to follow along!!!

im going to be doing a good sized update tonight ill make sure i throw in some pics of the vermi bin and my cucumber and pepper plants for ya. i was at Agway today and i was contemplating picking up some herbs and veggies but i think im going to wait for my spring garden.

The fish shit is the fertilizer however from my understanding a lot of people still filter out solid wastes, leftover/uneaten feed etc.

These wastes can then be thrown into a vermicompost bin to produce some nice worm castings.

Yes my understanding is that many of these systems are organic, however some use antibiotics and other nasty things (which gives a lot fish farming a bad name)

yeah it is probally a difficult system to maintain, you have to keep the plants happy as well as the fish and if you have ever done a fish tank you will know that they are not as simple as they look. maybe this summer i will try some aquaponics when i can put it outside....

Yes its very interesting. I've seen a lot of people put several large tanks within an outbuilding (garage, large shed) then the water is gravity fed to feed the plants which are outside and can be covered by a greenhouse in the winter months.. Too cool.

I've kept Aquariums in the past. Nothing too challenging (ie freshwater and no cichlids or "difficult" fish) but I enjoyed it a lot.

i have had a few aquariums in the past always had issue with ick and other shit. i have never started a brand new setup tho always bought used tanks so that may have something to do with it. goldfish are pretty easy to care after tho

Ballzy the bug, LMFAO!! he's taking care of business.
haha, kinda want to know what kind of bug it is and what kind of diet it has. does not seem to be eating any of my plants and it was definatly cool looking so i didnt kill it. i wont kill a spider either, i feel they are more benificial than harmfull so i leave them be (unless they are crawling on my neck then squashed)

i really reall want to buy one of these for ocasions like this bug

or a good macro lens, i dont think my current lens has good macro shot capabilities :( but i think i can work it so i can still take decent shots, maybe my bug will appear again soon and i will try again :)

hey guys as promised i have a pic update for ya!!

our first order of buisness is my worm casting tea, i have been brewing it for around 6 days and it is really dank.....today i added some happy frog 3-4-3 fertilizer in some homeade teabags and took the worm casting out. going to let the happy frog brew for around 24 hours then do a large watering.

IMG_0427.jpgIMG_0428.jpgIMG_0429.jpgIMG_0430.jpgIMG_0431.jpg

alright now some plant action, first up is the bagseed plants i have been doing LST to. i just tied them for the second time today, i anticipate one more tie before the flip.

heres Bagseed #1

IMG_0443.jpgIMG_0445.jpgIMG_0444.jpg

and bagseed #2

IMG_0448.jpgIMG_0449.jpgIMG_0450.jpgIMG_0451.jpg

ok, my blue cheese that is in the 10 gallon tote getting geared up for the Ultimate ScROG, i did my first tie down earlier today, i used a zip tie but i think i may cut it and use string at least for the first tie...

IMG_0435.jpgIMG_0436.jpgIMG_0453.jpg

if you guys remember i am attempting to revegg some flowering clones i took from my last grow, they are definatly growing but all fucked up looking, here they are

IMG_0438.jpgIMG_0439.jpgIMG_0440.jpg

heres the Dutch passion Frisian Dew, it is definatly had a growth stunt i think because the cat got it and ripped a couple fan leaves off a week or so ago, it is slowly making a return, when it gets a little bigger i plan on LSTing it as well.

IMG_0446.jpgIMG_0447.jpg

the Auto hobbit has shown a couple pistols but does not seem to be in full swing flower, im kinda happy because i want it to get a tad bigger before it goes into flowering.

IMG_0442.jpg

heres a pic of the blueberry gum not much to see but it is working on it :)

IMG_0437.jpg

and here is a couple pics of the whole grow

IMG_0452.jpgIMG_0454.jpg

and some pics of my cucumber plants my pepper plants and if you can see it i have a garden bean planted in with the cucumber. i also have a lemon seed germinating right now and if it goes ill get some pics up for sure :)

IMG_0432.jpgIMG_0433.jpgIMG_0434.jpgIMG_0441.jpg

Amazing utube link otto. I love aquaponics - if only more space...

Love that bug too Matt. Looks similar to a newly hatched mantid but I want to say it is another bug. I use to totally know both the scientific and common name for it but my mind is blank and my books still packed. In larger pictures they look just like mechwarriors (if you happen to be an old geek).

Kind of like this right? Want to say it is an ambush bug but that's a pretty broad common name.

Mechwarrior? Sheeeeeeeeit you just dated yourself gastanker.

The one I played was on PC back in 1990ish that was 22 years ago! Yikes

I've been obsessed with this aquaponics stuff ever since Matt posted the youtube video as well.

Something to aspire to for sure.

I even found this Australian guy who call his system microponics and it involves a more intricate nutrient distriubtion and some open systems for the water as opposed to a completely closed loop system in most aquaoponic setups.

I think if you google microponics you'll find out more about it.
