1st Time CFL Closet Grow

Tom is 20 days old (from sprouting) today and with the newly installed thermometer I know exactly how hot he gets during the day and how cold he gets at night.

Last nights low: 63 degrees f
This afternoons high: 83 degrees f

Is a 20 degree differance between night and day bad for the plant or is that pretty much normal temp changes?

If I turn my fan on low it will decrease the temp to about 75. (BTW I have the thermometer in the pot along the side)

temps are fine i think. remember in nature it always gets cool out at night. this summer my plants got hit by a couple frosts and they were fine. alot of rain caused some bud rot and had to chop chop early

Thanks Matt. I figured as much, just wanted to make sure. Should I worry about the humidity in the closet? I'm in Montana and it's the start of the cold dry winter up here and I've seen a few grows with gauges for humidity.

i have a humidity gauge right now its reading 35% humidity wich is pretty dry. i would only worry abouot it if you feel the humidity is really high, i dont think it being dry is bad but high humidity can cause mold issues. you may want to get a second opinion tho as i dont really know much about "ideal" humidity conditions.

The humidity should be kept high (around 90%) unless over watering has occurred and the soil needs drying quickly. Cannabis doesn't like its roots to be wet all the time, so don't water every day unless the temperature is quite high. If proper ventilation is maintained, problems like fungus and algae should be minimal. Average watering solution usage: 10 days after transplant, 1 Quart (946 ml) 20 days after transplant, 1.5 Quarts (1419 ml) 30 days after transplant, 2 Quarts (1892 ml) During Flowering, 1.5 Quarts (1419 ml)

Optimal Humidity:

  • [*]60 - 70% rH for vegetative growth.
[*]40 - 60% rH during flowering (lower rH helps to reduce the risk of fungal contamination on your already moist dank buds).
[*]80 - 90% rH for rooting clones and cuttings (high humidity is a must as these new plants may not have roots to draw moisture through).

also

Low humidity (below 60% during vegetative growth or below 40% during flowering) can stress plants. However, some growers swear by lowering the humidity as much as possible during the last several days of flowering, as this may promote increased resin production by the plant as it attempts to prevent excess moisture loss by sealing itself off from the dry surrounding environment with the good THC-packed sticky stuff.

Great info guys, thanks! I think I'll get a guage just to see what it's at but I don't think I'm going to worry too much about it.

And ya, one thing this forum deff needs is the ability for a user to edit any post they have ever made. That's how it is on all of the 5+ automotive forums I am on......

thats kinda small for 3 weeks with the wattage you say you have over it im a first time bag seed grower too bro its looking good tho
Picked up Toms pot last night and could see a couple roots threw the drain holes in the bottom so this morning I transplanted him into his new home. Also I moved my lights a little farther away because I'm worried the lower growth won't get enough light if it continues to be this short and bushy...…..... Opinions?

Too short and stuby?

The first two weeks I made sure my lights were no more than 2.5" away cause I want him to be short and bushy instead of tall and lanky. There is a Tom of growth all over this little guy :)

Today is Toms 3 week birthday!!

So to celebrate, here's a pretty picture!!

He's currently working on growing his 4th set of fan leaves out the top. The 1st set were three leaves, the 2nd set are fivers, 3rd set are sevens. Curious if the next ones will be nines....

I keep the fan on most of the day now because I want the stem to get nice and thick on the bottom to be able to hold itself upright when he gets bigger. Also I worry that the fact my stem curves a little bit up from the soil (and doesn't go STRAIGHT upward until after the curve) might weaken it a little.

The fan keeps it a steady 75* during the day which is perfect and everything seems to be going well so far :)
