Do I plug the light timer into the ballast or do I plug the ballast into the timer?

Should the ballast be plugged into the wall with the timer connected to the ballast and then the light connected to the timer? This way there wont be any surges when it switched on and off because it will always be on, only the light will be switching.

Or is it a better idea to have the timer in the wall and the ballast in the timer to switch the entire ballast off when the timer switches?

Depending on the wattage of your ballast you may need a relay to stop your timers burning out and melting the contacts.

If he somehow figures out how to do that, get the timer between the ballast and bulb...I bet it will only be one once, approximately 12 min before the fire trucks arrive.

surge protector does nothing for the ballast it just one more thing to fail, and having all your equipment on the same circuit is asking for a fire

i would definitelly use a surge protectar i dont think they even hardly use electricity and they make things much safer who wants a pot fire no house and ur in jail and the neiborhood gets to be high of ur crop doesnt sound so great

And some of the cheap surge protectors will start to melt before any breakers trip. The more expensive ones, like APC, that come with an equipment safety warranty of $5000 and up...No way in hell are they going to cover a grow op if it fails. Your TV or computer? Yes, but not your growing equipment.

Only on my legit electronics, TV, computers, monitors, router. I have a whole home suppressor connected to my main fuse box that covers both sides of the 120 feed also, that also covers my phone,DSL, and cable feeds.
A grow is straight up outlet. Even if I have to make the power board and sub panel.
