[/LIST]Fuck. That's like two thousand on gas.
I can beat that...
Suggested routes

  • 3,139 mi, 2 days 2 hours
    I-80 W

  • 3,219 mi, 2 days 4 hours
    I-84 W and I-80 W

Somehow, when compared to yours, Google thinks I can cover 200 additional miles in 2 additional hours...that's 100mph...that's not allowed...

I just checked ot the site again. Looks like its just the north shore thats open this time of year so I have a 565 mile drive ahead of me. This is going to break my record of how far I've driven for proper BBQ. The old record was a Sunday run to Mels old west in Planada from South Shore Tahoe back in '98

Mel's Old West....home of the 25cent beers.....lmao. That's a hell of a drive for quarter beers. I live in the sierra foothills and when I drive to the bay area, or central valley I pass by Mel's Old West, but never stopped. They must serve some swag beer in 4oz cup for 25cents.
Did you drink the 25cent beers?

P.S. TWS, if you stay in Yuba City, look down as you hit the elevated section of hwy70 as you come in to town at "E st". That's "E street" MX Track right under the hwy! Check them on the web!

Thank you sir> sure will check out the track too.

Did I drink them? HELLs YES!! I've walked in with a roll of quarters and slapped it on the bar like I owned the place. :)

The 1st time I went there it was like something out of a movie. I was living in Tahoe and my girlfriend (at the time) was transfered to Bass Lake for work. Driving from the 99 to go visit her I passed Mel's and since it was middle of summer, I had no AC in my base model truck and it was about 120 degrees out I locked up all 4 wheels as I passed by the place and saw the ice cold beer sign flipping a u in the middle of that 2 lane road.

The freezer door where he keeps the glasses is right under the beer taps and it was so cold in the freezer and so hot in the room that it poured smoke out of it when he opened it to get a glass. Its about an 8oz glass and I think at the time he was pouring lucky lager (or blue ribbon) for a quarter but I would have to say it was the best beer ever. He also has a pool table that costs a quarter a game and you get 2 songs on the juke box for a quarter but the horseshoe pits are free to use. I've drank away many hours there and had a $8 tab which included a brisket dinner and all the beer I could hold. I havent stopped by in about 7 years now but after the first few times I went there he never even got up from his bar stool except too get food, instead telling me that I knew where the taps were at and always offering for me to stay in one of the empty apartments upstairs.

He's good people so if you get a chance you should stop in. While you're there ask how much he will sell his '37 cadillac for. Im sure that will throw him for a loop since its tucked away in one of those barns and it only see's daylight when he washes it :)

The camping cookout is about 550 miles from mission valley. Mel's BBQ place is just outside of Merced about 400 miles from SD.
