Topping My Plant

Now when you say third node...you mean not including the little first leaves and then the other first single leaves right?

Is this a good location to do so for 4 colas?

If you are trying to do what UB mentioned in his topping technique. You would cut it 1 more node below and leave only 4 shoot outs. It will slow the growth for a week or so then it will groww like crazy. Yes you would have to veg 2 to 3 more weeks but vegging longer always gives you better yeild if you have the room.

To get 4 main colas, let your seedling or cutting (clone) grow to about 5-6 nodes and pinch out (cut) the stem just above the 2nd true node. The node where the cotyledons attach doesn't count. The result will be a redistribution of the auxins and other hormones that normally collect in the tissue of the terminal leader's tip. These ho moans will be redistributed to dormant buds that reside in the nodal axis where the leaf petiole attaches to the "trunk", below the cut. The new foliar output response will be quick (within 24 hrs., see photo below) if you have a healthy growing seedling and will be your future main colas - 4 instead of the usual 1:
See where he says above the second true node?

Yeah. I don't really care to much for that technique. If you want to get four colas out of one cut than why dont you just "FIMing". Sometimes I get four colas out of "topping" just once (and no im not confusing it with FIming. I know the difference). Its all just with genetics and how well the plant grows. I've never attempted to FIMing. Never found a need to. I just topped as many time as i want to increase my colas by x2. The plant above shows it being topped twice and it grew 8 main colas.

Yes. You can cut about the second true node. But I dont recommend it. It slows down growth by a lot. I like to top when the THIRD true node appears. This way the plant has started to establish enough fan leaves to where growth production will not be hindered.

Ive topped at the second true node before and the rest of the plants in the same cycle where topped at the third true node. All the other plants grow much faster than the one topped at the second true node.

Will cutting it above the third true node provide 4 colas? Or would this be where I'd have to cut it twice?

id say the red line was perfect dude. i might even go one node higher and prune off the very bottom branches for massive ass colas. i too usually top multiple times though

So where the white line is?

No! dont do that. That would suck, lol. Losing a lot of plant there. That plant like I said should of been topped a while back when it first grew into its third node. If you want to top this plant. Top here on this node or maybe one more node up.

When topping the plant top when the plant grows into its third node. Always top the very top node of the plant. Hench "topping"

So I should wait for that node to grow before I top it there?

Lol. I remember being in your shoes a while back. Just go ahead now and top at the black line. When you wake up tommorow you will see what is going to happen. Look at this pic man. Its the best I can show you. This pic help me out a lot when first starting.

If you want to top your bigger plant. It looks like it has 6 nodes of growth. Since this plant is off of the recomended topping schedule. Count 5 nodes up and snip. Experience goes a long way buddy.

Nice setup. So you built most of your stuff on your own. Yeah, I went the lazy way and bought everything, Ha. Your topping looks good. Give it a couple says and those will grow out into two tops.
