Looking for a new guitar, what's good these days?

Exactly! Fun to play with though, but I borrow alt of guitars. Nothing I own and play regularly has a tremelo arm, but the Epiphone seems to stand up well to bending. Well, maybe because it's a little girl bending lol.

EDIT: Ganjames, sorry for the total thread-jack! Stopping now x
It's alright, I'm probably going to pick this one up: http://www.gretschguitars.com/products/index.php?partno=2517010506

Plus that's retail so I can probably get it for around $550ish, and save me a little extra cash for a nicer amp.

I'm not really into hollow body guitars, one of my ex's used to play an epi casino and i didn't really care for it too much. Too big for my taste.
Yea, I can understand that. Bulkiness is a problem for me too, but there are some really great medium-sized hollows out there. I've found that it's much nicer to design my own guitar and make it myself

I was looking at those the last time I bought a guitar. Decided it was time for a semi-hollow and went with an Epiphone Dot. Not so sure it was a wise decision. I like the look and sound, and the heritage of a Gretsch. One thing bothers me about that one though. That fucking gloss shit or whatever the fuck it is on the pickguard. Can't they just offer a solid white or black version?

Yea, sometimes I'll spot a great looking guitar, and look at the pick guard and think, who works the design department? Because that's fucking awful looking. Good thing they're replaceable.

i'm guessing they went with that one because it matches the inlays, i would rather throw on an all black one but i can't find one online.

+rep to anyone that can find one.

You know the deal, if you've got $800, don't buy a $400 axe; you're not going to be happy. Check Craigslist for Strats and just be patient. Good deals come to those with patience and ready cash. If you want one that plays like a Strat but is more modern, I would suggest a Jackson; it's very fast action, sounds amazing and priced right. I've got a '67 Gibson Trini Lopez that I bought new while I was in high school. I also have a Charvel / Jackson model 6 that is my main squeeze. I play these through a 100w '73 Marshall Master Lead Mk II; it's a fucking monster!!

that's the thing though, i could buy a les paul for $2500+ right now if i really wanted to. I'm just trying to pick up something decent for now to see if i get back into playing. If i decide a few months down the road that i want to buy my dream guitar, i will. but i don't want to blow the money now and end up feeling like an idiot if i don't get around to playing as much.

it's been about 6 years since i've really played, and even then i was only decent.

I call bullshit on the whole get what you pay for thing. My entire setup now probably cost less than $1000. And you know what, it sounds pretty damn good. It could be improved by my playing ability improving. And I'll admit, if i swapped them epiphones for a gibson, it might make a bit of a tone difference. But I like the tone I have. I had a good amp and guitar when I was young and inexperienced. They sounded like shit, and why because at the time I sucked balls at guitar. My cousin could rip shit on them but still I mistakenly believed it was due to the quality of the intruments why I blew balls. If you handed Jimi a $149 squier he'd tear shit up and blow your faces off. I paid $550 for a mexican strat in store, and goddamn did that thing play good and have a smooth mafucking neck. And I look to some of my favourite bands and theres Carl Barat playing a fucking $400 melody maker and sounding damn good. Then there's Josh Homme with an Epiphone Dot like I have and people in the audience are freaking out and jumping and dancing all over the place and I wonder, would the reaction be any different if Josh was rocking a $3000 gibson or a $400 epiphone? Granted he probably did switch them pickups and shit out, probably still didn't reach the stratosphere, where many guitars prices lay.

Whee, we can be guitar buddies! Ebony and Ivory...

So happy to hear you've made a decision and will soon have a new addition to your family- congratulations!

Wanna see pictures with your new baby when it arrives. Have you decided on a name yet? Wait- is it a boy or a girl? :3

I'm not sure if I'm getting it yet, I want to keep searching for at least a couple weeks before I make a decision.
I'd hate to get something and then end up seeing something else that I wish I would have picked up instead.
