yes you have to be a very patient person to do this hobbie, nothing is fast all pretty slow as far as coral grows... I've lost alot of coral stuff just happens things get out of wack and boom it's dead , you have to test for calcium , alk , mag, and a bunch of other things, coral require a certain amount of all of those things , but I've had alot of The same stuff in my tank for 4 plus years now!

i havent GROWN coral but ive had a salt water tank for over 6 years now pain in my fucking ass is what it is...beautiful though..

I has me A NEMO!:)

Do you know of any websites that sell a starter kit? or anything?
Like maybe a 30 gallon starter... or should I just start big with just salt water fish and work my way up to live rock and then coral?

they sell ones called nanocubes that i believe all all in one, but they are quite pricey for what they are

I saw those when I was at petco today, but I was like I want something bigger :P
I think ill start out with a 55 gallon, and just do salt water fish, and work my way up.
it seems the easiest, and I can learn more instead of just buying a kit that costs 50% more then just buying everything separate

The bigger the tank the more easy it is ... Stuff stays more stable and you have to really do something wrong to get the params out of wack because of the water volume...my tank is a 250 gallon rimless reef all sps coral... But I would suggest a biocube 29 gal. I have one of those too... It's a cool starter tank and comes with most everything !

If your doing fish only get some live rock, the live rock microbes help keep your tanks levels in check. Just so u know theres 3 types of tanks, FOWLR( fish only with live rock) tanks, reef tanks and aggressive fish tanks.

Ok if u get a reef tank u migt not be able to get a lot of the fish u love like puffers and lions and tangs and angles cuz they all like to eat the coral. I think a reef is the best 75gallons is a great size to start with.

Honestly the beat place to start is get ur tanks and fill it, get ur live rock working and balance the chem levels for a month then set up a small 10g quarantine tank and. Slowly let ur fish get acclimated. Coral iss just like ganja u have to have ur setup dialed in. Once its dialed in in a large tank u should be good.

fowlr loooks cool, even though you dont have coral you can still make awesome landscapes with rock tunnels and shit. and live rock turns purple so it still looks exotic, plus you could always add fake coral, even though this thread is called growing coral lol. fowlr looks cool and is way more forgiving, also u dont have to buy all the weight you need in live rock (reccomended 1-2lbs per gallon), rather you can buy half live rock and another half lava rock or any pourous rock and the live rock microbes will slowly colonize the uncolonized rock.that takes time though, dunno how long exactly but you can look into it.
dont forget the cool lookin tiger shrimp things, the shrimp that remind me of tiny frenchmen with the string mustaches. lol

I know a guy that grows Coral. If you seen a picture of coral for sale on the Web, I'll bet that he took the picture.
