Yes, hookers. Should prostitution be legal?

I've been thinking about this a lot recently... We've all heard prostitution be described as a "victimless crime" before, right? It actually makes sense, IMO. I mean, what's so wrong about wanting a shot at this blonde babe? Nothing at all as long as she's willing, right? Why should a monetary transaction make an otherwise legal act, illegal?

Figured this would be a nice break from arguing about tax cuts and joblessness...

Well, I'd draw the line at Heroin and Meth and shit... I mean, I understand the whole "all or nothing" view you libertarians have with liberty, but I really feel like the costs to society far outwiegh any individual liberty attained by letting people destroy themselves on some meth. Hookers, gambling, and most drugs I could see... But I dont think I would ever support legalizing meth or heroin.

I don't really see why it is illegal. It is trading one gift in return for another, in most cases, money, but it could be anything depending on the situation. Or is it only prostitution when $US are being passed around tax exempt? I mean hell, what is a relationship....women gives bloke some ass and he then pays for dinner and get's her car fixed.

I've never gotten myself a prostitute, and don't ever plan on doing so, but i have no issue with them, they are just doing as they have chosen to do to make some money and eat, issue being some prudes don't like the idea of sex without the chase or some such. Seems tbtb just love to lump everything into one catagory, there's quite a difference between willingly earning a few bucks and being force fed barbiturates and kicked into the ground by the pimps and buyers alike.

If prostitution should be illegal, so should every form of service a person is able ot offer be it painting a fence or picking some fruit. Since when was sex wrong? Last i checked it was, well, pretty much THE core ingredient to maintaining species. It always amazes me that our societies and governments willingly promote death fear violence and war, kids will be locked into their shooting games and James Bond films, yet show a sex scene in said James Bond films and the parental community erupt, it's shocking yet entertaining, to promote murder and killing as A ok but nudity let alone sex as sort of devil manifested into human form, no, it's called a nipple you twat.

I used to agree with you mame, but now I see it a little differently.

We sell cars that top 180 MPH, we all know theres no need to go that fast on a public road. Yet, while the power is "unnecessary" its still there.
Making smack or anything else legal is not going to translate into an epidemic of new users. Those that are already using have no care about legality, those that will in the future wont either.

Put it this way, if legalized are you gonna stroll into your local 7-11 and grab a gram of smack? If anything the last century has proved that all prohibition does is supply criminals an easy way to make tax free money. If it wasnt for prohibition the American Mafia would have been nothing more than bookies and pimps.

I didn't mean to turn this into a debate about drug prohibition. The thing about prostitution being illegal, stems from the same attitude as drug prohibition and gambling. After all, what is Wall St except a huge conglomeration of gambling halls? The state says, "thou shalt not plays games of chance"... but playing the lottery is encouraged.
It is all just the government legislating morality and it has never worked and will never work.
If a hot babe marries a rich, old dude, (Anna Nicole Smith) isn't that sort of related? Look at Murdoch's wife, do you think she would have anything to do with him if he was broke?
I once heard that "men don't pay women to be with them, they pay them to leave." That's the only difference, imo.

Legalizing and regulating would take pimps out of the picture, john's and hookers wouldn't be getting robbed, beaten, killed (at least not nearly as much IMO if proper regulations were put in place - see PIC in Amsterdam). If a girl is DTF and a guy has extra loot he's willing to part with I do not see the issue. Agree with whoever said that the religious right is keeping this from happening. Prostitution has nothing to do with your scenario, it could well have happened between two people having an affair. A person should have the right to sell their sexual favours without judgement. What the hell is porn? Religion is the problem!
