550W LED vs. 5 plants in soil.

There's something I would like to bring up regarding Irishboys first grow under the 600W LED where he flowered out 4 plants.

Firstly it is not clear whether his yield was 19oz wet or dry, I am unsure about this but will assume that he is quoting dry weights as we all know that's what matters.

Also if the claim is true we can then establish that the grow was that successful and the success of any grow is only as successful as the weakest points of the grow.

Therefore we can assume that the LED panel was more than adequate a light source to produce the result, proving that the light was as good as a 600HPS.

We can argue that he may have had 4 really good clones from mega genetics but let's be honest, the strains were as comparable to many other strains available.

My point in this is simply that the result may have been a near perfect grow as was the resultant final weights but the light had it's part to play proving that the panel was indeed what it claimed to be.

In my mind there is no argument about it, the results spoke for themselves.

Thats why I was asking what kind of soil mix you were using because I figured his grow mix which ends up being 70% Perlite & 30% Peat-moss played a part in his success.

That may well have been a factor in the success of the grow but it also still shows the LED did what it was supposed to.

New pics, the lights were off but I snuck a few quickly, will put up better pics later in the week. They are just today starting to show pistils so they will begin flowering this week, I'm glad as I want them to flower asap.

New updates, this is about 10 days under the LED on 12/12 now and they are starting to flower. I have watered them tonight and have given them a good spray of neem oil as they are showing thripps eaten leaves on some of the plants. They will be fine as I will spray once a day for a week to usually kill anything around. They are looking good, I am hoping the stretch will be kind to me and I am being offered some hammer from the local hydro store to try, it is £30 for 6gr normally. This will hopefully also keep the stretch in control as I don't want them any more than 2.5ft - 3ft at finish.

Anyway I am happy so far, all looking good so far....

Nice grow newworld! I'm subbed up.

Don't know much about LEDs but I find them interesting, recently I heard from someone on here that if you keep them too close, you might noticed ill-effects. Is this something you've come across, it seemed kind of crazy when I heard but I guess that's LEDs for ya..

Either way, good luck man and happy growing.

Edit: by "come across" I meant is it something you've found in your research to be true :leaf:

Well I have seen light bleaching from being too close but that is rare, the guy who develops the GLH lights did some grows and found the 24-28 inch height produced best but that it was a single grow, not really conclusive through repetition. This time I will try to keep the light at 24 inches to see what comes of it but we'll see soon enough.

antoher pg series grow, nice. they've caught my eye lately.
whats the heat like coming from the top of the light?
what are you using to vent the led, how is it working?

hey man, glad you decided on the 5 plants... Kinda wish you would have had all of the same strain... can't wait till ur done tho. It would be cool if you had 5 of the strains ur using now under hps

The air is sucked in from above through the fans and out the sides, I don't know if any others run this way. The heat coming from the unit is around 85. The temps around the plants are more like 77 and never deviates according to the digital thermometer. I have a 5 inch odorsok on a 5 inch S&P fan to extract. A 120mm PC fan is used as an intake. The tent is 4x4 but the plants sit at around 3x3. My extraction fan is temp controlled and the setting sits at 25 and it never kicks in, the heat is negligible but I could see how it would build up in a smaller space.

I don't think the result of the LED panel is all that linked to same strain experiments, but I will say that it will test the unit even further so something like inadvertent killing of 2 birds with one stone kinda stuff....thanks for looking!
