Come one, come all, to discuss all the aspects of using molasses in your grow

if you have used molasses successfully, or unsuccessfully please share your story here.

ready, GO!

Well just to throw my 2 cents in, I've used black strap mollasses through all of my grows and from what I can tell love it but I have yet to do the experiment which I would love to find out if anyone has run this experiment...
I know that compared to a buddy of mines buds mine looked more "Juicy" than his but that coulda been through any number of factors in our different grows. Hope to find out some results!

:leaf:just started a couple months ago.
i take 4-6L h2o (tap water) let it sit 12-24 hours to allow chlorine to evaporate.
then i pour a glob of backstrap molassess into the bucket.
then i put a airstone at the bottom and plug in air pump.
then i pour half a cup of CIL brand worm castings lightly on top of water.
let it all bubble 24-48 hours and spray a ton on my plants and pour some on the soil.

:leaf:I usually spray the rest on my wife's marigolds, and they are the biggest ones i ever saw.
the other plants like it too.

:leaf:would it be better to use rain water for this???

:leaf:I heard you can put canola oil into the mix. can anyone tell me what this does?

The title is kinda misleading. I was expecting to come in and see facts about molasses and how it benefits to plants and what it doesn't do that people give it credit for.

I use it to feed my soil, and I use it to inoculate the various teas that I make……Molasses isn’t a voo-doo witch potion; its primary purpose is to feed the micro herd in your living soil, the bacteria in your living soil will breakdown whatever organic material is available in your soil, this broken down organic material is the waste of microbial bacterial activity (microbe poop), what the microbes leave behind is food for you plant…..it’s fairly simple to understand.

If you use it in a different way and you have great results then let the gods keep blessing you.

What? somebody on this site that approaches things in a scientific fashion and actually seems to have an understanding of Horticulture. Nah, this must be some good weed.

now i use liquid karma
From what I understand one of the base ingredient in liquid karma is molasses they call it carbohydrartes, you’re essentially buying $3 worth of molasses for $30, you can make our own liquid karma for pennies by brewing your own teas.

Liquid Karma™ contains the following amino acids; glycine, alanine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, sereine, threonine, apartic acid, glutamic acid, aspargine, glutamine, lysine, arginine, histidine, cysteine, cystine, methionine, proline, phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan. Vitamins; riboflavin, thiamine, pyridoxine, ascorbic acid, and a full array of other water soluble vitamins. Carbohydrates; sucrose, fructose, cellulose. Phytohormones; Indole-3-acetic acid, trans-6-(4-hydroxy-3-methybut-2-enyl) amino purine. hydrolysate, soy protein hydrolysate, fermented yeast extract, aqueous extracts of etiolated wheat coleoptiles, and Zea mays, aloe vera extract, yucca extract, humic acid, fulvic acid, and kelp seaweed extract.

nice buds. it would be nice to see 2 plants side by side. 1 with molasses and 1 with out.
my base nutrient mix is-
Mexican Bat Guano~~~~10-2-1
High Phosphorus Guano~0-5-0
Molasses~~~~~~~~~~~1-0-5

according to Mel Frank plants need two times more Potassium (K) then Phosphorus (P)
so if i grew 2 plants side by side, one with Molasses, and one without the plant without would DEFINITELY be deficient, in the form of an overall yellow color, weak stems, and slow growth.

just my 2cents

you can boost the K with kelp meal too + the kelp meal works like super thrive, the kelp meal has beneficial growth hormones that the molasses doesn’t have, I use both of them in conjunction with each other….seems to work pretty good for me

Wah?! I agree with the previous post of yours, but not this. Liquid Karma appears to contain sucrose/fructose/cellulose(all carbohydrates), but not molasses (which also happens to contain sucrose/fructose/glucose but no cellulose). LK is really a slew of plant/biological stimulants, grow regulators and hormones, et al... you can't make it at home for $3, sorry.

The whole "debate" is moronic though, because [most] people here have no idea why they really use anything on their plants in terms of the plant. They simply think using such and such will give them large dense buds, or whatever, and fail to see the bigger picture which sort of ensures that a plant can be able to grow at it's full potential. And what provides for plants better than microbiology and the soil food web? There are still nutrient requirements, though, and if any nutrient is seriously limited the plant just wont grow to full potential. If K or some trace elements are limited and you add in blackstrap molasses each watering your buds will be of superior quality than they previously were for that reason.

I have a question about molasses. I've googled quite a bit, and I get conflicting accounts..

But would Molasses be okay to use in a reservoir that is constant being refreshed via a 633 GPH (I could throw another in if I needed) pump shooting up a small water fall in the middle of a 150 gallon cow feeder? Last year I used Molasses with Grains on top of the plants, I didn't really like that set up at all, was horrible.

Anyway any insight would be helpful, you can check out my grow journal if anyone is interested in watching it.

If you look at Jorge Cervantes' Grow Book he has a side by side comparison of plants given sugars (p. 280 in my edition), and plants not, both from same mom, there was a VERY noticeable difference, he says, "Adding Sugars during the last 6 weeks augmented harvest weight of the bud on the right by 20 percent."

Of course is he talking molasses? Who knows but sugar is a large part of molasses.

being that i live on the coast, i use fresh, chopped Bull Kelp Stipe & Bulb (see pic) in my dirt and tea's, its nice because it dosent go "slimy" like most fresh kelp. i am also looking to buy some Greensand on the weekend.

Really? It seems like LK has broken down the molasses in advance for you in the form of simple sugars....maybe you cannot reproduce this for $3 but i can make something that works just as well as LK with amendments that I brew in my teas…. for pennies! I think you missed my point, please do what works best for you. If you want to buy $30 bottles of sugar water/tea concentrate go for it, If you arguing for the sake of semantics, I’m really not into it! Do you have a catipol investment in Botanicare or something?
Nullis if you ever get out this way hit me up and I’ll roll you a few fatties for your visit!
