I'm not sure how different the Afghan Kush Special is vs. the Afghan Kush Landrace...I thought the "Special" line was all genetically modified somehow, but I haven't looked into World of Seeds for a while.

Well friends, I harvested the first Grape Stomper x OG yesterday @ 68 days 12/12. Could have gone a little longer but time constraints require I harvest everyone over the next week, and she was first in line. Here are a couple shots pre-chop:
The remaining GSxOG and Deadhead OG will be cut in a couple days, after the first GSxOG has dried. Both are at 69 days 12/12 and in need of a couple more. These next pics are from 3 days ago.

Finally, the Deadhead. Very pleased how she filled out. Looking forward to the opportunity to grow her offspring DHx[GSxOG] and DHxSourHazyJones.

Lookin great Jerry, I thought the same with my GS-OG that I cut at 69 days, she could have done with more. I'm running some GS-OG clones again in flower now and I'm gonna take them much longer this time round 75+ days maybe. When dried & cured though mate she's a real blast

Good to note. Maybe we'll give it a shot and send you a heads up. Reading somewhere recently told me that when it comes down to K, cannabis plants prefer slow-release applications. Thanks for the word on your sand. :]

The thing is, greensand is sooooo slow release that it's really only suited for outdoor use where the same soil is used season after season. It could work if you're recycling soil, but there are a lot of other issues that come with that.
Also, it's a very limited resource, and I don't think we should be depleting it when there are many other mineral sources we have at our disposal.

Yesterday I harvested the remaining two plants, Grape Stomper x OG #2 and the Deadhead OG. Both could have used another week, but time constraints dictated otherwise. Still, both completed 72 days of 12/12, so it's not as if they are premature, but given the option I would have let them go a bit longer. Both faded very nicely, as I stopped giving nutrients about 3 weeks ago, so I'm expecting some smooth-smoking buds.
Deadhead OG. This turned out to be a very nice yielding plant, despite the lack of veg time after transplanting (usually I like to transplant into the final container and veg for another week or so before switching to 12/12, but in this instance the plants were transplanted and immediately placed into flower). Not a heavy feeder, but needed slightly more nutrients than were available through my soil mixture alone, applied in the form of the General Organics lineup and SPT. Smell is reminiscent of bubble gum or candy, though I expect that to change slightly as it dries and cures.
Grape Stomper x OG #2. Slightly better yield than GSxOG #1, though less than the Deadhead. Both GSxOG would have benefited from the extra week veg time I normally provide, and could use another week to ripen up, but again time was working against me and the window for harvest was yesterday. The smell is almost identical to GSxOG #1 (grape, fruity, kushy, awesome), and I'm looking forward to discerning their subtle differences over the next couple months.
So these last few plants are not the most perfectly grown (through no fault of their own) or the most visually stimulating, but what they lack in appearance they make up for in smell and potency (judging by the scissor hash anyway
).
Where I go from here remains to be seen. My residence and career path are soon to be changing, and my hope is to relocate somewhere in the 30% of the country where cannabis is medically legal. My hope/goal/plan is to get a job, move, and resume the operation within 3 months. I have a veritable wealth of seeds at my disposal, and am itching to grow out some of the recent crosses I've produced and some I've received from others. I can't even look at pictures of vegging plants now without feeling a bit remorseful that I have none of my own

I must credit a large portion of my cultivation knowledge to RIU and the many people who have crossed paths with myself here...you have each influenced me and my grows in some way. But like anywhere in life, excessive negativity permeates throughout this forum; coupled with ignorant ramblings of myth and mystique, locating reliable information can seem more like a chore than the pleasure it ought to be. I have attempted with this thread to shed some light on one way of growing cannabis--organically, in soil--and hopefully provide a source of useful information for those lost in the chasm of misinformed threads.
The frequency with which I will revisit this site is likely to decrease substantially over the subsequent months, but this thread will remain open in that interim and I will do my best to address any residual questions regarding my methods, techniques, thoughts, etc. Once re-established in my life, I plan on returning to RIU and chronicling my continued exploration into the world of cannabis cultivation. Though an additional time consumer, updating this thread forces me to rethink various aspects of my operation, while also providing an invaluable illustrated journal of my development which I can revisit at any time. So look forward to New Adventures in Jerry's Garden sometime this fall!

I've only used Green Light rooting powder (from the hardware store) and Clonex Gel (which I prefer). I've never used BMO to clone with, though I'm sure it would work. You don't really need anything other than high humidity (I use a dome) and a constant, diffuse source of light.
When I clone, I cut the branch and immediately place it in a cup of water (this prevents an air bubble from entering the cut site, which apparently is bad). I then take the branch and do a combination of scoring and scouring with a razor blade. For scoring, I cut 1 or 2 vertical slits from about an inch or so above the cut site. For scouring, I hold the blade perpendicular to the branch and "shave" off a little of the exterior of the stem, exposing tissue underneath which helps rooting. During this process I try not to keep the branch out of the water for longer than 30 seconds at a time, dunking a few times as necessary. Once scored and scoured, I dip the branch in the gel (or powder, but the gel is much cleaner) and plug into a small cup of lightly fertilized soil. I always pre-moisten the soil before inserting the branch so as not to wash away the rooting hormone, and use a skinny poker (I use a dart) to make a hole. Once the branch is plugged into the moist soil, I spray the clone and top of the soil with a little water, then compress the soil around the branch with my hands to hold it steady until she roots. Then its into the dome and under a cfl or two for 24 hours continuous light until it roots. Every couple days I like to remove the top of the dome for a few minutes to exchange the air and give the clones a light misting. I also use clear plastic cups so I can easily see when the clone has rooted.
