so if my ph @ source is 6.5
but my soil says 8
is it alright?

one more thing to mention, my plants only a week old but it has one set of leaves the bladed ones and now the rounded ones
containing the nutes and water i think to survive are dieing off.. but the bladed leaves look healthy
do you think its lieing? and i should just carry on like normal
I think your best way of finding out what the soil is at in your pots is to water them, get a cup or jug and the water that comes out the drainage hole on the bottom of the pots, let the cup fill up with that water and then take a reading from that and that is the ph of the soil in your pots.

the round ones (called tear leaves) go brown , crusty and die fairly quick , the 1st set of "true" leaves are the bladed ones , if your water ph is saying 6.5 then ignore what the soil says , you will know if your ph is too high when a few more leaves grow , the tip ends will go yellow slightly and curl down.
Using that wilcos soil you should be ok with just water for about 4-5 weeks as it will use its own nutes , after that it will need feeding some nutes.

Everything sounds good mate so just keep doing what ya doing , any future probs then catch me on UK growers thread or PM annd ill help you out as much as i can :)

but the ph reading of soil is meaningless ....

I wounder if i could pick your brain a mo, when i frist went to a grow shop the guy said not to worry about ph, just let your water sit 24 hrs and water as you do. ive read so much about ph and how importent it is, i ph my water to 6.5 but yet when i took a reading from the run off it was 6.9. dont micro nutes get locked out if the ph is off abit?

Riiiiiiight ... listen to the guy in the grow shop - ish .... lol
Alot of people say you have to let tap water sit for 12 - 24 hrs , this is supposed to get the chlorine to evaporate out the water ... maybe 10 years ago that was true but nowadays water companies dont use chlorine they use a diff chemical which evaporates almost instantly so you can water straight from the tap ;)
next ... if your growing in soil then dont worry about your ph unless its like 7+ out the tap or 5- .... anything else is fine , as for the run off , it means nothing unless your using hydro setup. the run off in a soil setup can range greatly due to amount of nutes in the soil , how much air is in the soil , how long you have been using the same pot etc ... the biggest problem with soil setups and PH is lock out caused by salt buildup ... as long as your water or nute mix is between 5.2 and 6.5 BEFORE you water then you will never get lock out .... hope this helps

If you know any one with a couple of fish tanks he will probably have an ATS water test set which is a really good indicator, also he might have a PH reducing additive he uses to keep PH down ( or up) whichever you require. add a little Epsom salts to the water, it does no harm in light doses and at some points in the grow I believe its a necessary additive --just back into growing after a couple of years off so don't take my word as gospel
