HI peepz, I build LED panels for a living. I work with chips of 1, 3, and 5 watt, chineses sourced chips. Typically, any LED panel you buys that has 500w for example, should be running at around 90% of it's rated capacity. Every 1 watt chip really gets .9 watts, and 3 watt chips get 2.70 watts. Driving them beyond their specs makes them get pretty hot without good active cooling. I took a small heat sink of about 1.5 inch x 1.5 inch square and 2mm thick, it got uncomfortable to touch after 30 minutes, with just one 3 watt LED running at full cap. So the manufacturers like to say a bunch of shit about how they have 175 x 3watt lamps on their boards making xxx watts, but in reality they always under drive them because proper sinking and active cooling cost a bundle more than underdriving. Peace
I wasn't aware that 1w diodes were run that high, but for how many of the 12 wavelengths people seem to have settled on? Mike from GLH has told me the case is that different companies have wavelengths available at different max ratings (1 or 2 or 3w) and some must be run at a lower wattage (ex: the amount of power going into a 3w red could be lower than a 3w blue). So you say 2.7 for 3w diodes but clearly most LED companies are only running their 3w diodes on average of 1.5-2w, this is because of the fact you can't run them all the same wattage and because you can't get the best version of each color from the same company)

For every ounce dry you need minimum 4 ounces wet, 75% is lost in the drying/curing process so yes well pointed out there.
Well iff you want proof i posted pics over in dunits purple kush grow journal beleive it or not man im not lying and you can ask all the guys around here how long I have been growing .....

To specify I vegged them for about a month and used a bunch of mycos started out organic but when I triggered flowering started using GMB and molasses. Like I said if you do not beleive I have pics of it all dried up in dunits purple kush grow journal and in a deep salad dish that you buy those salads in at the store. To be honest its the biggest yielding plant I have ever grown in a one gallon container it was literally top heavy and falling over... I had to support it with other plants on the sides ...... I am using promix-hp so a soiless medium drys pretty fast almost every day had to water..... If the pot dried up the plant would literally fall over it was literally about 5 foot ++ tall the biggest plant out of all the ones I have but definitely not the frostiest. I have a bubble gum kush in there right now thats gonna yield about 2 ounces maybe just under 2 in a one gallon from nirvana. I also have 2 og 18's in there from dna genetics that are litterally so frosty they look like almost the have hash tips ! so to anyone that says blackstars do not do the job or even a cheap chinese panel is bull shit ... trust me and by all means when I came into this specific grow was my first time growing with LED I really thought that I would not have enough leds and was considering even buying 2 more blackstars to do the job...... well I still might buy another 2 and just grow 2 big huge 5-10 gallon plants instead of a bunch in one gallon containers ...... but definitely will post some pics of the og 18 's that will blow your mind there probably both going to yield just over a ounce maybe a ounce and a half but to be honest the potency is going to make up for the yield in the two og 18's they literally are super frosty and if I had a better camera it would do it justice but unfortunately im only going to be able to use my phone

Also if you do not have it get this specific type of molasses wholesome sweetners organic molasses unsulpurhed its expensive but it really brings the smell out and the terpines of the plant ....... the smell on the og 18's is amazing smells literally like lemon skittles ......

Mykos is with a K :P I love the stuff too, the tomato plant I gave mykos to is as big as the other 3 tomato plants put together and they've all been planted since Mothers Day. Sorry if I made blackstar sound incapable, I give them a bit of a hard time for misleading on wattage, but next to GLH I recommend them the most to people (the '240' panels I consider to be the best panel I know of for less than $300)

And to be honest beleive it or not they were vegged for little over a month maybe a month a a week and a half ... to be honest ....

Well I bought them when they were selling them for 240 a pop plus free shipping should have bought more to be honest. ....... now that they have jacked the price up but anyway I was seriously looking into buying 1-2 magnums from what I seen dunit pull LEDS can really grow and flower your plants you just have to find the right ones and using mykos and the right nutes and medium can have a huge impact on yield and potency ! I am definitely going to be sticking with LED from now on although I miss my 600w hps I do not miss the electric bill and the heating and ducting hassle .....

Yea having one fan that runs the carbon scrubber and one to ruffle the girls feathers is nice, a lot quieter too
I suppose one downside to LED is that you can't do much about the noise their cooling fans make, its not like with HPS where you can put the fans wherever you want.

Did you build the light yourself? Plants look great!

Thanks dude. No i didnt build the lights myself i got them off a guy on ebay, his lights are expensive but he only uses the very best led bulbs includig the new cree xpe range for one of the reds. Im really pleased with the results so far:)

So LED cooling fans r that loud..Are they louder that ur 600w ballast?I have a quatum 600w and wanna switch to LEDS becuz of heat but if there that loud i dont know stealth is always key for me atleast..

Hey guys,

So I really want to go with LED lighting for various reasons so I wanted to get some opinions on my proposed setup. I have around $250 right now to put into a light and I have been looking at the Haight Solid State 90w LED grow light. Once I get into flowering I will have some more money so I am going to purchase two or four 24w T5 lights for the flowering stage. Would this work well in a grow box that is going to be 20"x20" and 36" tall. I plan on doing two or three plants SCROG style to maximize the yield flowering with an LED. Please let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for any help

It sounds like that light uses some new tech, so you could try it out for everyones benefit. If you are not willing to risk your money, you could go for a blackstar '240w' (even though its really 140w) as its the most proven unit I know for less than $300 (you can get it on sale for $250 once in awhile). Don't go T5s for flowering, get a good LED for your whole grow! You could also get a kessil for $200, but I haven't seen how well they flower cannabis myself.

I've seen comparative grows with solid staight and have to say they did not perform well, they look cool but do not do as well as LEDGirls products.

LEDs are not loud compared to loud gaming computers or most filter fans. My big 395w panel is a little less than half as loud as my 190 cfm filter (and it has some kind of leather jacket to reduce noise?), like I said you can't hear it from outside on the ground right below outside, you can't really hear it from outside my room during the day. But with the filter fan I use for my tent that plus the LED you can hear from outside the room (but not outside the house even directly below window) and it sounds like a sorta loud (but not suspiciously loud) computer is running inside the room (and I built a $1400 gaming computer so I say its that). The smaller panels like the UFOs should be pretty quiet I imagine, my panel uses a whopping 395w and uses 6 good fans while most panels use less than 150w (but are labeled often up to 250w) so they should be quieter. I don't think anyone has to worry about their LED being louder than their filter fan unless they are doing a stealth/micro grow like maybe in a smaller box/cabinet?

I have 3 5inch fans running in a room plus the LED and it's 6 fans and then 3 oscilating fans and you can't hear a thing once the door is closed....you guys have some noisy fans man LOL.
