Lets Give it Another Go - Afghan Kush x Yumbolt & Purple Haze

I planted the other afghan kush x yumbolt seed in a much smaller container this time, about half inch below the soil watered before i put the seed in. I feel confident about this little 1 :). Hopefully the other 1 is the purple haze... Gonna be a shame if that's the 1 that died.

Looks good, hopefully it's the purple. Although purps are usually pretty random when it comes to turning purple. Some do, some don't.

My advice it to relax a little. Yes, use smaller cups to sprout in and then transplant to your final pot. I know others will day to move up gradually, but I personally just transplant strain to whatever my final pot will be (or bags, as I use grow bags).
And other then that, not too much light when they're trying to sprout the surface, as light can hurt the roots. It you want to use some light for warmth ok, but I wouldn't have the 4 bulbs on each while they're trying to sprout still. After they're up, yes, the lights are good. I used a setup very much like this. But far more complex (not to my benefit either). As a result of the complexity, I had no need for Low Stress Training, but once I got to flower, and switched to my HID, I no longer had that coverage. Just a lack of forethought.

Also, I recommend R/O water, properly pHed to between roughly 5.5 and 6.2. From bottled water isn't usually cost effective. I've got a 5 gallon jug from walmart, and drilled a small hole for small plastic oxygen hose to go through, then used a fishtank air pump, and an airstone (bubble stone) to keep the water oxygenated. Be mainly cause the jug will be sitting there for almost 2 weeks before being used up.

Good luck man, i'm subbed so...i'll be watching. You seem to have most of it down though.

The water out of my tap is well water, is that fine? That's what i used last grow, didn't seem to hurt them in any way, and should i take that cup out of there? Because it hasn't sprouted yet and i don't wanna damage her little roots :(. And i just wanted the purple haze because i don't think i've ever smoked sativa, really don't know tho, i didn't wanna grow it because it'd turn purple.

Edit: I put the cup in the drawer i use to germinate seeds in.

A little light is fine, for once it pops the soil, but heat (not excessive heat) is helpful to the germing process. The soil should be warm, not hot. And its pretty easy to get R/O (Reverse Osmosis) water. If you get some jugs of water at the store (use water jugs, not milk jugs) and refill it at those machines in front of any store. It's usually between .25-.33 per gallon. Tap water tends to have chlorine in it, as well as other minerals that can build up in the soil. But if you HAVE to use Tap water, leave it sitting out in an open container for approx 24 hours to allow the Chlorine to evap off. Then properly pH it to the numbers I gave you before. In order to pH your water, I recommend you use the drops make by GH (General Hydroponics), and their line of pH up, and pH down. A very small amount will pH the water to the proper levels, allowing the roots to uptake fertilizers.
Make sense?

Starting to get a little worried about the seed i planted :(. And when do i start counting vegging days? lol

Does anyone know why the one that's been up looks like this? Maybe It's the purple haze, because the other seed i planted is already up and looks normal to me lol.

And here's the other little girl i planted, I helped her get up last night, and over night she got up and grew new leaves lol.

You count vegging days once it's established...I dunno, i'd say once you see the first nodal growth start (after the serrated leaves come out on 4 sides. (as least thats when I would count it)
But veg times are less important then flower times.
And you start counting flower as soon as you switch to 12/12...
I'd give the first one some time, it should normalize itself, they tend to do so. But just keep us updated, and next time, take multiple pics from multiple angles of problems, so we can get a real feel for it.

Alright thanks man, it's just that they're in such a cramped space, well the 5 gallon bucket is cramped, and my bed keeps the door from opening all the way. I'll keep updated, and maybe get some better pictures.

Well, that first one is on it's way. When it comes to watering your PLANTS, it's every 3-5 days or so, sometimes longer, but...under the soil is dried, and you see the plants asking you for water.
But while they're sproutlings, keep the topsoil moist until their roots get established. (3-7 days at most i'd say)
And that first one certainly is.....unique.
But I still say give it a little time. Maybe plant another bean just to be certain you'll have a good 2 plant crop. Since that one may end by being genetically compromised. But, take plenty of pics, and Emal the seedbank, if for no other reason then to let them know they may have some genetic abnormality. And I know your uncertain as to which seed it is, so try looking up those genetics, see if you find any genetic abnormalities in them. And when you contact the seedbank, assume it's the strain you have more of. And ASSUME that the purp died in that cup. If they grow out real different, then you'll know it. Otherwise, odds dictate it's the Afgan.

You've got some killer genetics with that afgan though, provided the breeder didn't get overly creative with them, and took the time to stabilize the strain. I'd like to get my hands on beans like that, might have to check out ttude to get that Indica. I have a thing for pure indica strains.
How much you pay for the 3+1free beans?

Alright, thanks for all the helpful information :). I should maybe germinate the other, does the first one really look like it might not make it? And would 16 cfls be good enough for 3 plants? And the seeds were about 48$ including international shipping. Oh and also, Attitude doesn't sell seeds to be germinated, and says when emailing them not to mention anything about growing them, although i am a medical card holder, so how would i go about contacting them, and informing them about my little deformed seedling?

I know I'm going to be running into issues during flowering.... I was planning on using 16 cfls for the 2 plants in flowering, and that's gonna be in the middle of the summer. Earlier for a test before i had my seeds, i turned all of them on for a little while to see if the temps would sky rocket, which they did. Really don't know what to do, as cutting holes in the walls isn't an option. Is there a cheap way to keep the temps down?

I use a Stanly Blowerfan on my HPS pushing air out the window, but that requires a carbon filter. Temps are a difficult thing to control, when it's cold, your lights can heat the room, then it's hot, it's very hard to get it cool again. Trust me, I deal with heat constantly.

And I've never personally ordered online, but I suppose you could always tell them that one of the seeds arrived broken. They're usually pretty good about replacing those things. But there are others who would know better then I.
However, you can easily grow out just 1 good plant and take a clone or 2 from it for your next grow.

And on the CFL's, what TRUE wattage are they? (not the equiv number they give) and what color temp? (The ????°K)

My plan was to top them when they get about 6 nodes and clone the tops, going for 4 main colas. The cfls i'm using right now are 27w 5500k, i couldn't find any 6500k at home depot. When i flower i switch to 23w cfls 2700k.

Nice bro..those mutants grow up to be beautiful;-)

And i really hope the deformed one grows :D.

I just got thinking... Does topping increase yield? Because it just seems like it takes from the big bud that would've been formed without topping it and splits them up into smaller ones. I mean i have plenty of vertical space, but very little width space. Whole reason i wanted to top was to get more, but does it actually give you more? Maybe i should try and grow them naturally.

That deformed one is a real trip man, but it should come along, give it time, you'll just have to wait and see what she does.

And the lights should be fine.

Btw, this may ALL blow over, and we'll all go back to loving RIU like we all used to. But based on this thread
https://www.rollitup.org/support/432518-attention-all-users.html
I don't know how much more i'll be around the site...i'll still stop by your grow and all, but, may not be around other places too much.
