Theory Testing of Styles

Yo Canon that Jack and Blue Widow are budding up so lovely. I can't believe how healthy and green they are. The stems on your girls are unbelievably thick. Wow, I'm totally impressed:) Even the SS Haze is budding up nicely. Hey like that lights you made with the aluminum. I'm learning something new on your thread each time I visit:)

Thanks Chief.
Wish Marcus would pop back in.
Think he would understand now what I meant by, "growing bud,, not leaves."?
At this point the plants have all but turned their energies away from leaf production Makes for easier manicuring). They seem intent on growing buds and the suporting sugar leaves. I try and leave the sugars alone. Unless they block a lot of light. Then I'll remove or reduce the amount of that particular one or two.

Very impressive. I love thinking outside the box. I'm fairly new to growing and I'm learning a ton. So much great info here. Some of the concepts I understand and will definiately be back. I'm about 17 day in from seed in my grow. https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/419477-cfl-grow-l-confidential.html Could you do me a favor and look and see it it's too late to attempt portions of the multiple tops using your LST methods?
Your grows looks good.

All I would consider doing at this time if it were me wouldbe maybe a FIM depending on what you're looking to do.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone without hands-on experience with combining different technigues and a good grasp on their growing conditions and style.
There was a lot going on here that I didn't bother to put time into mentioning.
Unless there's a reason,, I wouldn't grow this way generally. This was a bit extreem,,, even for me. Also rather labor intense.
If you realize that all is not gospel that you read on the net,, you've done good.
Next step is try different things the way they suit your needs / wants.
Eventually you'll come up with something that works perfectly for you. Knowing that experimenting with early topping, FIMing, Nutes, leaf removal, cheap dirt, simple cloning is in no way absolute doom, you'll be off to a great start. Don't let others put them blinders on you. Trying things is how we get better.

I think I'm gonna top the LA Con to get 4 colas. I'm just going to let this first one go and see how bog she gets. Next grow after we see how heavy a feeder is, maybe. I'm shooting for short compact plants with lost of bud sites. Smaller colas to lessen mold etc. Hobbes has posted similar yet different stuff on a thread of his. Thanks for the caution warning more than being an "all in kind of guy",lol

There ya go! That was the reason for this (partly).
You're on the right track. Good luck,, and mostly, enjoy.

Funny,,, I must of rewrote the reply to you 3-4 times.
Didn't want to discourage you,,, while at the same time trying to get you to go slow & easy.
Looks like it worked.
Hope to see you post up your own journal when you're ready so we can all follow your experiences in whatever you decide to do.

The dummy that I am,,,
I mentioned I had Fungus Gnats this past Fri / Sat.
Added a update and it looks like I hit the wrong buttons again!!!

Anyways, they are one of my arch enemies in growing. I simply hate the basterds with an all-out passion.

Pretty sure they're history now though.
Cost me some seriouse flowering time to do so,, but worth it.
With bugs I simply don't mess around with them. If I can't make them go in 4-5 days,, the grow gets scrapped,, everything washed and re-painted and set up again. Fortunately, caight it early and didn't need to go that far.

Checking back on my last update,,, I've lost many a "white hairs" in the battles. (But won the war. :bigjoint:)

It's funny that you mentioned rewriting the response multiple times. I read one in the morning before work. I came home and wanted to read it again, but it was gone...I was thinking some weird shit was up. I knew I wasn't stoned cuz I'm out, lol. At some point I checked back and the response I responded to was up. I'd read Uncle Ben's article on topping to get 2 or 4 colas sometime during my last grow. My intent was to do that in conjunction with LST, kinda like Hobbes does with his crop circles deal. I've done tons of reading, watching and lurking rather than just jumping in and wasting cash. At some point in the near future I'm going to throw a 250w light at my girls. I like the challenge of more with less. It might be the Marine in me, lol. Lots of guys say be happy if your first grow yields an ounce. I did that with bag seed and CFLs. And since I'm growing for ME only I'm trying not to murder my electric bill and produce the best quality I can.

Damn Canon, glad to hear you took care of the bugs who wanted to take over your grow:) It would have been a shame to destroy your beautiful budding girls

Thanks Chief.
The cure was near borderline catostrophic. Lost most of the hairs and threw them into shutsown. 1 week later they're just coming back. ( Will they Hermie?)

Focus is on the perpetual (new challenge) at this time and bugs were simply not a part of the plan.
I'll do an update soon. The setback is significant, but bugs are gone and I still get some yeild.

Thanks & welcome.
Many of your questions are answered in post # 147 on page 15,, and in post #167 on page 17.

The plants are all pretty well identified and kept in order from pure sativa to near pure indica throughout the journal. Tried to keep it easy to follow.

As for the stalk,, first 4 weeks was all about building the foundation in the stems & roots to suport this.

First of perpetual -

Remember these? 17 days ago I decided to use them for a early start-up.

Well, they've been flowering in the closet on 12/12 with 42 actual watts of 2700 CFL (ea.) for about a week now.

P1.jpg P2.jpg

In 2 more weeks(?) these will be repotted to their final and the next 2 will be put in place. (It's started! ) These will be grown in a little more conventional manner. ;-)

But, they're pushing me again!

Imp.jpg

Not sure if I have 2 weeks of room left. :wall: May be changing the schedule by a week.

Next Mon, Tues I'll do a complete update on all. Gotta warn you though, loosing 2 prime weeks of flower (dealing with bugs) really hit hard. Was all my fault though. Being in a rush to get the modifications done for the perpetual,, I got unusually sloppy during a bad time. The weather got really fine, bugs were out in swarms, and I (stupidly) just set them off to the side for working space. Cost me dearly.
